Speaking to CNN on Saturday, March 23, Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis claimed that her RICO case against Trump and his co-defendants has not “been slowed down at all” despite the attempts to remove her over her relationship with former lead special prosecutor Nathan Wade, her lover.
As background, Trump and some of his co-defendants attempted to have both DA Willis and Nathan Wade removed by bringing allegations that there was a conflict of interest because she indirectly profited from hiring Wade, as the two went on trips together that Wade paid for. Judge McAfee found that though there is not enough evidence to remove Willis, there was a “tremendous lapse in judgment,” and Wade needed to resign.
Further, Judge McAfee recently approved a motion from Trump and some of his co-defendants asking for a review of that decision, in which they argue that DA Willis did behave in a way that required her removal and that Judge McAfee found wrong in his ruling otherwise. Judge McAfee found that their motion is important enough to require immediate review.
DA Willis then appeared on CNN to argue that she does not need to work on repairing her reputation following Judge McAfee’s ruling, that she’s not embarrassed by what she was caught doing, and that Trump need to know “the train is coming” and was not slowed down by the attempts to remove her from it.
Beginning, she defended her reputation, saying, “I don’t feel like my reputation needs to be reclaimed. Let’s say, for the record, I’m not embarrassed by anything I’ve done.” Continuing, she tried framing her behavior in a more favorable light, saying, “You know, I guess my greatest crime is I had a relationship with a man. But that’s not something that I find embarrassing in any way. And I know that I have not done anything that’s illegal.”
Then, delivering her warning to Trump and his co-defendants about the case roaring full steam ahead, Willis said, “All while that was going on, we were writing responsive briefs. We were still doing the case in the way that it needed to be done. I don’t feel like we’ve been slowed down at all. I do think that there are efforts to slow down this train, but the train is coming.”
Watch Willis here:
Trump, for his part, has remained more focused on the New York situation than DA Willis. In a recent post on Truth Social, for instance, he wrote, “Even though I did nothing wrong, a Radical Left New York Judge, a true Trump Hater, Arthur Engoron (Are we allowed to speak about his Unconstitutional Gag Order?), picked a number out of THIN AIR, $355,000,000, plus interest (reminiscent of John Lovitz, “The Liar,” on SNL when it was good), & wants me to bond it, which is not possible for bonding companies to do in such a high amount, before I can even Appeal. That is CRAZY!”
He added, “If I sold assets, and then won the Appeal, the assets would be forever gone. Also, putting up money before an Appeal is VERY EXPENSIVE. When I win the Appeal, all of that money is gone, and I would have done nothing wrong. The Crooked Judge, who has already been overturned 4 times on this case (a record!), fully understands this. He gave us a demand which he knows is impossible to do. This Witch Hunt, between a bad Judge and a Corrupt & Racist Attorney General, is horrible for New York. Businesses are FLEEING, while Violent Crime flourishes. ELECTION INTERFERENCE!“
