During an interview with Newsmax’s Greg Kelly, former President Donald Trump gave his side of the story about the classified documents found in Mar-a-Lago, leading to the charges from Jack Smith that he is currently fighting against and attempting to have thrown out. Trump explained that he thinks the documents were taken to Mar-a-Lago “legally.”
Speaking to Kelly about the matter, Trump slammed the raid on Mar-a-Lago, saying that those behind the raid are “corrupt people” and that, before the “sudden” raid on his home, he was dealing with the documents and requests regarding them. As he put it, “I was dealing with them. We were dealing fine. And then all of a sudden they raided this house. They raided Mar-a-Lago. These are corrupt people.”
Continuing, Trump contrasted his case with Biden’s classified documents case. Doing so, Trump explained that he thinks he was protected by the Presidential Records Act, whereas President Biden was not. Giving his take on the situation, Trump said, “But they release Biden. What Biden did, he wasn’t protected by the Presidential Records [Act] because he wasn’t president. He took them when he was a senator.”
Not done there, Trump went on to say that he thinks the documents were taken “very legally,” and that Biden took many more documents than he did, yet isn’t being charged, making him suspect that there is “something going on.” He said, “There’s something going on because they’re going after me viciously. Then all of a sudden it comes out that Biden took 10 times the number of documents that I did. And I took them very legally and I wasn’t hiding them.”
Emphasizing that the documents were not, in his view, hidden, Trump explained that the boxes from the move out of the White House were all mixed up, with some containing both documents and clothes. He said, “We had boxes on the front of the– and a lot of those boxes had clothing and a lot of things. We’re moving out, ok? Unfortunately, we’re moving out of the White House.”
Concluding that part of the interview, Trump reiterated his claim that he was not hiding anything and that he thinks Joe’s document-related transgressions were far worse, particularly considering the security environment in which they were kept by Biden as opposed to how secure he thinks the Mar-a-Lago documents were.
He said, “And because we’re moving out of the White House, our country’s going to hell. But we weren’t hiding anything. He was and then you see him in with his Corvette. Nobody ever mentions the one. That’s the worst is he had him in Chinatown, and those were boxes that were used. If you take a look at those boxes, those boxes where there was a lot of activity in those boxes, they show pictures of them. These were boxes that were used in Mar-a-Lago. We had the Secret Service, we had all sorts of security. We had everything and what he did was far more egregious.”
