In addition to having to face legal challenges over her relationship with Nathan Wade and appointment of him to the RICO case as a special prosecutor, Fulton County DA Fani Willis will have to face a political challenge as she battles to get elected to the district attorney role again. That is because now a Georgia Republican, Courtney Kramer, has qualified to run for DA Willis’ seat.
Such was the news announced by Phil Holloway, a Townhall columnist and lawyer, on X. He said, “BREAKING 🚨🚨 Attorney Courtney Kramer @supreme_court1 [Courtney Kramer] has qualified to run for Fulton DA in a challenge to #FaniWillis. Kramer pledges to focus on the Atlanta crime crisis, violent crime, human trafficking, organized retail theft. Things that matter most to Fulton residents.”
Commenting on Holloway’s post, one commenter said that the news was welcome, as Republicans need to get their act together and start more aggressively challenging Democrats for critical positions in local politics. That commenter said, “Great news. Republicans really need to start pouring resources, funding, & finding talented candidates at these critical positions in local politics. Courtney seems to fit that bill perfectly.”
Ryan Fournier, a conservative X personality, also posted about Kramer joining the race, saying, “Fani Willis is no longer running unopposed in her election. THANK YOU to Courtney Kramer (@supreme_court1) for challenging her. She is a PATRIOT who pledged to actually do something about the crime in Atlanta. Let’s defeat Fani!”
Kramer’s legal practice, her biography provides, “focuses on political and defamation law.” Continuing, her bio notes, “Prior to joining the Binnall Law Group, Courtney was the Executive Director of the nationwide election integrity nonprofit, True the Vote where she oversaw the administration and strategic planning of the 2020 election investigations and ballot harvesting operations. Courtney has held positions with the Office of the White House Counsel, the American Center for Law and Justice, and President Trump’s post-election legal team. During her time in these roles, she defended the First Amendment, fought for religious freedom around the world, and remained active in the Georgia Republican Party.”
It also notes her academic credentials, providing, “Courtney is a graduate of Emory University School of Law. While at Emory, Courtney was the recipient of the Restoring Religious Freedom Project award, served as Special Contents Editor for Emory’s International Law Review, and had the honor to work for the United Nations in the Counter-Terrorism Executive Directorate program. Since graduating, Courtney has been published numerous times and James Magazine has recognized her as one of the most influential attorneys of 2021 and 2022 – the youngest to receive the title. Prior to Courtney’s legal career, she attended Georgia College & State University where she graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science.”
Kramer isn’t the only challenger Fani Willis faces. Christian Wise Smith, a Democrat who has served both as the Atlanta city solicitor and as a Fulton County prosecutor, is also trying to replace her, and filed paperwork at the Georgia State Capitol to do so, CBS News reports.
Commenting on the matter to CBS News, Wise Smith said, “Running for public office is not a decision I take lightly. I am heavily considering the options as I aim to reach a final determination on my candidacy — ultimately, I only want what is best for the citizens of Fulton County. Should I decide to launch my campaign officially, my team is prepared to take all the necessary steps.”
