Christy Shamblin is the mother-in-law of Marine Sergeant Nicole Gee, who was one of the thirteen U.S. service members killed in Biden’s catastrophic withdrawal from Afghanistan in 2021; one of the most controversial moments in the Biden administration.
Shamblin recently appeared on CNN ahead of Biden’s State of the Union Address, where she was interviewed about what she would like to hear from President Biden regarding Gee’s death. “He’s gonna be addressing a lot of global issues probably in the State of the Union address. What do you want to hear from him about two years ago? What happened to your daughter-in-law?” the CNN host asked Shamblin.
The mother-in-law noted that she expects Biden to address his plans to improve America’s military forces and provide answers as to what went wrong with the chaotic 2021 Afghanistan withdrawal. “I want to you hear how he’s going to strengthen our armed forces and support them and answer our questions and lead do a thorough investigation like they promised so that we can move forward in a positive way and make it better?” she responded.
The host suggested the president has been known to offer his condolences to the families of deceased veterans, claiming, “Biden, he’s often called the Consoler in Chief, he does talk to families who have lost loved ones because of his own experiences. Have you experienced that from him as you’ve been coping with the death of Nicole?”
However, Shamblin cut off the host before she could finish asking the question, refuting this claim. She explained that Joe Biden had not taken the time to reach out to her family following Nicole’s tragic death while serving her country. Gee’s mother-in-law further noted that the White House has failed to respond to them even after they reached out.
“No, he has not reached out to our family. We’ve actually reached out to the White House and have never heard back we asked to meet with them to kind of understand where their thinking was in calling this a success and we’ve not received a response, it’s been months. No, that’s not been the our experience at all,” she said.
In light of Biden’s failure to reach out to Nicole Gee’s family, House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Michael McCaul announced that he had invited Christy Shamblin to be his guest for the State of the Union address. McCaul called for the Biden administration to be held accountable for the failure in Afghanistan, stating that he would not rest until a comprehensive investigation has occurred.
“More than two years after the death of Christy’s daughter-in-law and 12 other U.S. servicemembers at Abbey Gate, the Biden administration still refuses to take accountability for the tragedy it caused,” stated Chairman McCaul. “I hope Christy’s attendance sends a clear signal to President Biden and the American people that I will not rest until a complete and thorough investigation has occurred – and that people are held accountable for what happened.”
