During the Tuesday, March 5 White House Press Briefing, Fox News Channel White House Correspondent Peter Doocy dropped a bomb of a question on White House Press Secretary Karine Jean Pierre, asking about Biden’s feelings after popular singer Taylor Swift declined to endorse him in a recent post about voting on Super Tuesday.
As background, Taylor backed Biden in 2020 and many on the right and left suspect that she will do something similar in 2024. So far she hasn’t done so, and has even stayed above the fray generally during the election. In fact, in a Super Tuesday post, Taylor encouraged people to vote without saying for what side they should do so.
In the post, she wrote, “Today, March 5, is the Presidential Primary in Tennessee and 160 other states and territories. I wanted to remind you guys to vote the people who most represent YOU into power. If you haven’t already, make a plan to vote today. Whether you’re in Tennessee or somewhere else in the US, check your polling places and times at Vote.org.”
Notably absent from that was any mention of Biden, as Peter Doocy picked up on and asked about in the Tuesday press briefing. In 2020, for reference, Swift supported Biden in an interview and then posted about it on Twitter, saying, “I spoke to @vmagazine about why I’ll be voting for Joe Biden for president. So apt that it’s come out on the night of the VP debate. Gonna be watching and supporting @KamalaHarris by yelling at the tv a lot. And I also have custom cookies 🍪💪😘 ”
So, Doocy asked why there was no endorsement in her Super Tuesday post this year. He asked, as KJP chuckled at him, “Thank you, Karine. President Biden has said a possible endorsement by Taylor Swift is “classified.” How disappointed is he that she is telling people to vote but not for him?”
KJP, in response, said that she was “Going to be very careful.” Continuing, she added, “We’re talking about 2024. And so, I can’t comment on what Taylor Swift is saying or not saying. I have no idea. I’m not seen those statements. And I’ll just — I’ll just leave it there —”
Watch her here:
The “classified comment to which Doocy referred is from when President Biden appeared on Seth Meyers’ “Late Night” and Meyers asked, “I have you on the hot spot here. Can you confirm or deny that there is an active conspiracy between you and Ms. Swift?” Biden, in response, put on a pair of aviators and said, “Where are you getting this information?” He added, “It’s classified,” then repeated, “That’s classified information.”
Posting about the situation on X, one Swiftie argued that Taylor had no need to get involved until the election is formally between Biden and Trump, saying, “I don’t know what people aren’t understanding because Trump and Biden Are. Not. Competing. Right now. It’s a primary. She doesn’t need to endorse anyone yet. Not until the general election. Once we get there she’s welcome to if she wants.”
