Speaking at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC), Kari Lake gave the crowd some insight into former President Donald Trump’s hunt for a Vice Presidential candidate for his 2024 campaign. She argued that Trump is looking for an “America First” vice president who will agree with his political program and help him fight for America.
Speaking to a Breitbart News reporter about what Trump is looking for in a running mate for the 2024 election, Lake said, “I think he wants someone who’s going to be a good partner, who is going to fight for this country, who is America First, loves our country, is supportive, and loyal — to not only him, but [someone] who is going to do great things.”
Continuing, she went on to note that there are a good number of people he could choose for the role, as the conservative movement is now full of MAGA-focused patriots who could help him out. She said, “And the great thing is, we have so many great people in our America First movement — he could pick from literally hundreds of them.”
During the event, Lake also spoke to Breitbart News about Trump and how he’s motivating people to get involved in politics, saying, “I actually get chills thinking about how I’m seeing everyday people who’ve never been involved in politics, stepping forward, showing up at conventions like this, getting involved, calling our office, saying, ‘How can we get involved?’”
She also argued that Trump just needs to keep doing what he is doing to push the country in the right direction, saying, “President Trump needs to keep doing exactly what he is doing, reaching the people of this country with his incredible hard work and policies that are going to bring us back to some strong economic times, safety and security, and world peace.”
Watch Lake here:
Speaking to ABC News, one “senior GOP strategist” said that the CPAC 2024 event was a way for the various VP contenders to make their case to the base, and thus Trump, saying, “CPAC is an opportunity for the VP hopefuls to make their case to the MAGA base. At the end of the day, Trump will probably have an ‘Apprentice’-like audition for the VP slot.” That strategist added, “CPAC is a good venue because it is the most MAGA of the base — the true believers.”
Similarly, another source told ABC News, “I think what you’re going to see at CPAC is a number of people who are trying to impress upon the crowd that they are as MAGA as Trump, that they are the best person to be his running mate. You’ve got a number of people who are going to come out and try and convince what is a very conservative crowd that their Trump bona fides are sufficient enough.”
Lake, for her part, is running for Arizona’s Senate seat and has indicated that she doesn’t want the VP job. Her “War Room” account on X, posting on the matter after a CPAC poll about the VP slot, said, “BREAKING: Out of 30 contenders, @KariLake wins @CPAC straw poll for Vice President. We’re flattered, but unfortunately our legal team says the Constitution won’t allow for her to serve as Governor and VP at the same time.” That was a reference to her 2022 gubernatorial run in Arizona.
