Donald Trump recently roasted the long-time late-night talk show host Jimmy Kimmel, who has a well-established history of bashing the former president, with a brief farewell message. The host recently suggested that his time on late-night television could end when his contract expires in the next couple of years.
Trump called out Kimmel’s ratings, suggesting another personality could do much better for a fraction of his pay. “They could get a far more talented person, who would also get better Ratings, for 5% of what they are paying this Loser!,” Trump said on his social media app Truth Social.
The American Tribune reported on Kimmel’s statements hinting at his retirement after spending twenty years as a late-night talk show host on ABC. “I think this is my final contract. I hate to even say it, because everyone’s laughing at me now — each time I think that, and then it turns out to be not the case. I still have a little more than two years left on my contract and that seems pretty good. That seems like enough,” Kimmel said during a recent interview.
Kimmel also explained that it may be his final time hosting an Academy Awards show, noting the time and effort invested in the ceremony. “I did not think I would ever do it again. I did two of them, and they went well — something crazy happened at one of them with a story I’ll have for the rest of my life. I know how much work goes into them, so I thought, ‘Yeah, I don’t necessarily want to do this ever again.’”
However, Donald Trump’s toward Kimmel are nothing new as the late-night host and the GOP frontrunner have a long history of disagreements. Since Trump entered the political realm within the last ten years, Kimmel and other late-night hosts have made it a point to use their platform to bash him.
For example, Kimmel recently suggested it could be a great thing for America if Trump died while discussing the Supreme Court’s case regarding the former president’s immunity argument. When Kimmel mentioned that the legal challenge “might actually kill” the former president, he was met with enthusiastic applause from the live audience.
“Let me tell you something — if those three judges he appointed to the Supreme Court take this case and rule against him, he is going to blow a whale-sized windmill out of his a–. I mean, it might actually kill him,” Kimmel said.
He continued, stating, “Sometimes I wonder, once Trump is dead and gone and buried on the 18th hole of one of his golf courses, will things get better? Or will we have a whole new crop of MAGA brains to deal with?”
However, Trump has consistently criticized Kimmel over the past several years, particularly over his ratings. In one instance, Trump labeled the ABC host a “last placer” when comparing him to the success of Fox News host Greg Gutfeld.
“Wow! Congratulations to Greg Gutfeld, a one time Trump Hater who has come all the way home. His Ratings easily beat no talent Stephen Colbert, nice guy Jimmy Fallon, and wacko “last placer” Jimmy Kimmel. Greg built his show from scratch, and did a great job in doing so,” Trump tweeted.
