As Americans across the country struggle to deal with the crime burden, some are feeling it far worse than others. Among those feeling the crime crisis the worst is a restauranteur in Seattle, Washington, who claims to have suffered 23 break-ins since the defund the police movement in the city picked up steam three years ago.
Speaking to the local media, the Seattle restaurant owner said that he feared that activists would target him for speaking out about the crime situation, and so asked to remain anonymous. As evidence of the mob’s mentality, he noted that after he spoke out in the past, a veritable avalanche of negative reviews were left on Yelp about his restaurant.
Further, the restaurant owner showed surveillance footage to KTTH’s Jason Rantz Report, a conservative radio show based in the Seattle area. In the footage, which the Rantz Report reported shows the most recent break-in attempt, a burglar breaks through the restaurant’s front glass door. Then, after spending about ten minutes trying to get inside, the thief finally managed to make it past the “violently dismantled” door.
The incident report revealed, “That lone suspect dressed in a heavy black hooded jacket, with black balaclava covering his face was wearing gloves and quickly started to check at the front of the bar then around the counter where myself, and officers had set the alarm off, only his presence had never set the alarm off (for unknown reasons).”
Shockingly, the burglar stole nothing, including liquor from the bar. Previous robbers had stolen liquor. Based on the fact that no liquor or even electronic equipment was stolen, the police indicated, the Rantz Report revealed, that the robber was likely “looking for a safe.” As with the goal being unclear, it is unclear to the police if the perp was familiar with the restaurant or targeted it only out of opportunity.
770 KTTH noted, in its report on the matter, that the crime situation in Seattle is out of control, with many businesses targeted numerous times in compressed periods of time, such as a smoke shop getting robbed seven different times in one month alone. Reporting on that, it noted:
After dealing with $14,000 in losses from one burglary, an International District gaming store was robbed at gunpoint. The offices for the Seattle Men’s and Women’s Chorus suffered four break-ins over the course of just four days. Before putting merchandise behind lock and key, the downtown Seattle Target would see shoplifting almost daily. A Seattle smoke shop was hit seven times in one month. West Seattle Autoworks dealt with two break-ins in the same night. A gas station in West Seattle experienced three break-ins in just six hours. Some downtown and Belltown-area businesses have been hit so often they don’t even ask an officer to respond anymore.
Fox News Digital, reporting on the situation, notes that about 7% of the respondents to a household survey of the Seattle area said that they have felt at least some pressure to leave the city over crime since 2020, indicating that such crime problems are widespread and wreaking havoc in the lives of Seattle’s law-abiding citizens.
