The controversy surrounding Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis has dominated headlines amid allegations of a romantic affair, financial misconduct, and more. Willis’s father recently took the stand, adding shocking details to the case.
Willis’ father, John Floyd III, is a retired lawyer and former member of the Black Panther Party who explained how he was concerned for his daughter’s safety while Willis has been prosecuting former President Donald Trump.
Floyd called out a recent incident where someone allegedly spray painted profane language on Willis’ home. “Somebody sprayed the B-word and the N-word on the house, and I don’t think my daughter even knew about that,” he said.
At one point during his testimony, Floyd made the bizarre claim that he predicted the COVID-19 pandemic, claiming he “knew it was coming,” far before anyone else in the U.S. “Before Covid was even here in the U.S. – remember I lived in South Africa and I traveled the world. I knew Covid was coming before. They may have announced it in ’20, but i knew what was happening in ’19.”
At another point on the stand, Floyd even whipped out his own magnifying glass when asked to examine his driver’s license. However, the former member of the Black Panther Party gave a damning piece of testimony when discussing his daughter’s alleged relationship with special prosecutor Nathan Wade.
Reportedly, Floyd could not back Willis’ claim that she did not begin seeing Wade until after her office hired him. “She kept that [relationship] a secret from you, is that correct?” a lawyer for Willis asked. “That is correct,” he answered.
Defense attorneys also asked Floyd about claims that Willis kept thousands of dollars in cash sitting around her home. Her father claimed that this was a “black thing.” Floyd explained, “I’m not trying to be racist, Your Honor. It’s a Black thing. I was trained, most Black folks hide and keep cash. I was trained you always keep some cash, and just because of the color of my skin,” he said.
Floyd proceeded to embark on a tangential story about taking his family to breakfast. “I took a fellowship at Harvard when my daughter was just three years old, and I remember going to a restaurant in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and I had an American Express card and maybe a Visa, and I had a lot of what they call traveler’s checks… There was a sign that said credit card, and for whatever reason the man wouldn’t take my Amex, then he wouldn’t take my Visa. Then I pulled out traveler’s checks and he said we don’t take that either,” Floyd said. “I’ll never forget this, i had $10, and he said the bill for my wife and daughter and myself was $9.99. I’ll always remember that. I told my daughter you keep six months worth of cash always.”
Calls have arisen to disqualify Fani Willis from the controversial Trump prosecution amid the damning allegations surrounding her conspicuous relationship with Nathan Wade. See footage of Wade’s testimony wide-ranging testimony below.
