Recently, late-night talk show how, Stephen Colbert went on a fiery rant about the various legal challenges former President Donald Trump faces ahead of the 2024 election. According to conservative social media users, Colbert’s rant was a prime display of what many colloquially call “Trump Derangement Syndrome.”
Colbert claimed it was “an insane day for America because it’s a regular day for Donald Trump” when discussing some of the leading GOP candidate’s ongoing court cases. This week, Trump faced two simultaneous trials where one pertained to accusations of falsified business records in New York and the controversial election interference case in Georgia.
The host further noted that alongside these two trials, the former President was fighting a Washington, D.C. trial relating to the January 6, 2021, Capitol protests, a classified documents case in Florida, the Colorado ballot removal, and the E. Jean Carroll defamation case verdict.
Colbert paused during his segment, removed his glasses, and stood inches from the camera. While staring into the eyes of the audience, the host proceeded to rant in what some have described as an “unhinged” monologue.
“I know how numb we’ve become. But it’s not normal. No other candidate for the presidency has ever had to pause his campaign to defend himself in multiple courts. And I would like to point out that in all seven of his cases, no one no one doubts that he did this thing are just sitting around patiently waiting to find out if the wheels of justice will grind fast enough for there to be any consequences. And the media is covering it like as any other political story, like it’s all horse race,” Colbert said.
Colbert seemingly slammed Republicans for supporting the former president amid the list of legal battles. He stated, “And yet, despite all this, people want to hire this maniac to be president.” However, Trump, alongside many Republican voters, firmly believes the judicial process has been weaponized against his presidential campaign.
The American Tribune recently reported on comments from Trump, where he unloaded on Fulton Country District Attorney Fani Willis after she gave a shocking testimony this week. The former president claimed there is “no case” against him and that the charges should be dropped.
“There is no case here,” Trump said in an interview with Fox News Digital amid Fani Willis’ testimony. “It is so badly tainted. There is no case here. There was a perfect phone call. It was perfect. But by going after Trump, she’s able to get her boyfriend more money than they ever dreamed possible.”
“The case will have to be dropped,” Trump added. “There’s no way they can have a case. The whole thing was a scam to get money for the boyfriend.” He further alleged the charges are a product of the “election interference” from the White House. “This all comes out of the White House. Don’t forget Wade, the lover, he spent hours at the White House. This is all a weaponization of politics.” Trump added, “It’s all about trying to stop somebody who is killing them in the polls, and it is a sad thing to watch for our country.”
