One of the more frustrating aspects of this year’s NFL season, at least for those who watch for football rather than pop culture, was the interminable focus on Taylor Swift whenever the Chiefs were playing. While understandable from a business perspective, given how many “Swifties” watched football as a result, many found it highly annoying.
Unfortunately for those who thought that way, the Swift-Kelce focus might drag on, as Swift could come to the White House with the Chiefs as part of the team’s traditional post-victory visit to the White House to meet with the President.
Such is what KJP suggested when asked about the matter during the Monday, February 12 press briefing. That came when she was asked, following the Chiefs’ Super Bowl win, “And then, secondly, you — you started the briefing by wishing a congratulations to the Kansas City Trie — Chiefs, as — as well as to all the Swifties out there.”
KJP laughed in response. Pressing on, the reporter asked directly about if Taylor Swift would be joining the Chiefs for their post-Super Bowl LVIII victory White House visit, asking, “I’m wondering: When the Chiefs are invited to the White House, does the White House intend to also invite Taylor Swift?”
The White House Press Secretary did not give a direct “yes” or “no,” though she suggested that Taylor could potentially be invited if the Chiefs select her as a participant in the traditional visit. She said, “That’s going to be up to the Ka- — to the Chiefs and, obviously, their decision to figure out who’s going to come with them when they come.”
Continuing, KJP added, “And as you know, it’s a White House tradition. I can’t — I can’t speak to attendance and who will be here. But we look forward — we look forward to having them here. And, obviously, we congratulate them on a — on a great win.”
Watch that here:
The potential for a Swift visit comes amidst not only the attention paid to her from the NFL, but also attempts to politicize her and get her to support Biden, something that would likely boost him in the polls significantly. Swift did support Biden in the 2020 election season, but so far has shied away from doing so in 2024.
Trump, for his part, said that he thinks Taylor will not support Biden. He said, “I signed and was responsible for the Music Modernization Act for Taylor Swift and all other Musical Artists. Joe Biden didn’t do anything for Taylor, and never will. There’s no way she could endorse Crooked Joe Biden, the worst and most corrupt President in the History of our Country, and be disloyal to the man who made her so much money. Besides that, I like her boyfriend, Travis, even though he may be a Liberal, and probably can’t stand me!“
