Recently, Fox News’ “The Five” had a chaotic segment where the panel devolved into a heated argument about the presidential campaigns of Joe Biden and former president Donald Trump. Co-hosts Jesse Watters and Jessica Tarlov engaged in a heated exchange when Watters brought up an opinion on the Biden administration.
Watters pointed out several challenging circumstances Biden’s campaign will have to contend with, such as the state of the economy where many Americans feel dissatisfied with the macroeconomic backdrop. Furthermore, the Fox News host slammed Biden for “clinging” to pop star Taylor Swift’s endorsement.
Watters was referencing a report from the New York Times that discussed historic lows in disapproval ratings that Biden is enduring. Apparently, Biden’s campaign is hoping to inject youthful energy into his reelection strategy, seeking to obtain the endorsement of cultural icons such as Swift.
“Nothing to do with each other. I read this article in The New York Times, this is the Biden reelection strategy, are you ready? Don’t run on ‘Bidenomics’, leave the White House more than once a week, ask Bill and Barack to raise money for you and hope a pop star endorses you. Jessica, this is not the reelection strategy of a winning campaign. This smacks of desperation and the fact that he’s clinging to Taylor Swift, who he couldn’t even pick out of a lineup without Jill going like this — ‘that’s Taylor’ — tells me everything you know about Joe Biden,” Watters said.
Tarlov immediately hit back at Watters, bringing up the E. Jean Carroll controversy surrounding Trump. A New York jury recently ordered Trump to pay over $83 million in legal damages to Carroll, who claimed the former president damaged her reputation by calling her a liar for accusing him of sexual assault.
“Is the strategy to owe $83 million for defaming a woman that you sexually assaulted?” Tarlov said. “I would love Taylor Swift’s endorsement. Any politician would. (crosstalk) But I like people like Kid Rock,” Watters retorted. “I love that you ignored what I just said. Because that was the news from the weekend on that side. And then Joe Biden was 15 minutes —“ Tarlov said, pressing Watters.
The panel proceeded to squabble back and forth, arguing with Tarlov on the controversial verdict on the E. Jean Carroll case. Donald Trump recently spoke out against the jury’s decision, expressing that he disagrees with the decision and intends to appeal the case.
“Absolutely ridiculous! I fully disagree with both verdicts, and will be appealing this whole Biden Directed Witch Hunt focused on me and the Republican Party. Our Legal System is out of control, and being used as a Political Weapon. They have taken away all First Amendment Rights. THIS IS NOT AMERICA!” Trump said regarding the legal case.
Trump lawyer Alina Habba also weighed in on the defamation verdict, labeling the decision “a violation of our justice system.” Habba told a reporter, “That is a violation of everything I stand for and that is why I stand with Trump. And that is why so many Americans are so proud that he is running again and so excited to run to the ballot box but don’t get it twisted. We are seeing a violation of our justice system, ladies and gentlemen.”
