With Ronna McDaniel finally being willing to step down from her position as Chair of the Republican National Committee, at least according to reports on the matter, the RNC will need a new head as it charts a course through 2024 and toward a hopeful victory in this year’s elections. Trump ally and entrepreneur Mike Lindell has said that he wants the job.
As background, McDaniel has not yet announced that she will step down. However, reports have emerged claiming, based on alleged internal deliberations, that she is considering doing so given the vocal opposition to her leadership from at least part of the party, along with former President Donald Trump’s questioning of whether she should keep her job.
The Associated Press, for example, cited two anonymous sources who claimed that McDaniel met with Trump to discuss stepping down, and both agreed to wait and see how the South Carolina primary goes before making a final decision or announcement on the matter.
In any case, MyPillow CEO and Trump ally Mike Lindell is already angling for Ronna’s position. Such is what he told Steve Bannon during an appearance on Bann’s “War Room” podcast, saying that he’s ready to step into the position and lead the right to victory in 2024.
That comment came when Mr. Bannon asked him if he would, with the blessing of former president and likely 2024 GOP candidate Donald Trump, take over the RNC chair position. Bannon asked him, “would you volunteer to take over the RNC if the President so asked you?”
Responding, Mr. Lindell said that he is all in on the idea, and would just need to make sure that he has the backing of the party to set to work once he took over. He said, “100% I would then I would have all the tools I need to fix secure these elections and immediately we’ve already got everything in place. We just need resources and, and their blessing behind us. Absolutely.”
Watch Lindell here:
Trump, posting about McDaniel and the situation on Truth Social, said, “Things are looking great in the Presidential Race of 2024 against Crooked Joe Biden. We have Leads, in many cases substantial, in virtually every Head-to-Head Poll. The Primary seems to be over, but I’ll be going to South Carolina next week to finish off a very unpopular Candidate. On Thursday, I’m heading to Nevada for the Nevada Caucus, where there are 26 Delegates – Hopefully, we’ll get most of them. In my successful run in 2016, the State of Michigan really came through – First time in Decades that it was won by a Republican, and it was headed up by my friend Ronna McDaniel. Ronna is now Head of the RNC, and I’ll be making a decision the day after the South Carolina Primary as to my recommendations for RNC Growth.”
Somewhat similarly, Trump told Fox News Channel’s Maria Bartiromo that he thought McDaniel did “ok,” but that there’s room for improvement. He said, “I think she did OK, initially, in the RNC. I would say right now, there’ll probably be some changes made.“
