Recently, a couple from Centennial, Colorado, were forced out of their home after their electric vehicle burst into flames, engulfing their garage. The vehicle in question is a Jaguar I-Pace, where reportedly thousands of that model are under recall due to fire risk with the battery.
The owner of the vehicle, David Frosh, described a horrific situation where he and his wife awoke to find their garage on fire. “We woke up and our garage was in flames,” Frosh told Fox31 Denver. “It appears that our Jaguar electric vehicle spontaneously caught fire.”
Reportedly, electric vehicle fires have become a significant issue for owners worldwide, where they are particularly difficult to extinguish, given the nature of the battery in these cars. “Electric vehicle fires are an emerging threat across the world right now,” explained Eric Kurtz from South Metro Fire and Rescue. “Specifically when the battery pack is involved, that it can be nearly impossible to extinguish it will take 10s of 1000s of gallons to do that.”
Kurtz emphasized that EV owners should fully understand the fire risk associated with these types of vehicles, given their heightened prevalence. “We don’t want people to necessarily feel afraid of those. We just want them to better understand that there is a risk of fires,” he said.
“Last year Jaguar recalled some eyepiece vehicles from 2019 to 2024 model years due to the risk of high voltage batteries catching fire, frosh will investigate to see if his vehicle was included. Owners were told to park the cars outdoors until a software update could be completed,” Fox31 reported.
Last year, EV popularity began to wane as prospective car buyers turned to traditional gas-powered vehicles, citing factors such as cost, concerns about reliability, and the insufficient infrastructure for the cars to be practical.
Former President Donald Trump has made it clear where he stands on the Democrat-led push for mass electric vehicle adoption, noting many of the policies being touted are “insane.” Trump recently spoke with Fox Business host Maria Bartiromo, where he discussed the potential impact of Biden and the EV agenda on U.S. industry.
“If Biden gets elected, you won’t have an auto worker working in the United States. Everything’s going over to China and other countries outside.” He added, “This electric car mandate is insane. They don’t go far, they cost too much, and they’re going to be made in China because they have the material to make them. We have oil and gas, we have gasoline, and that’s what people want for the most part,” Trump said.
The leading GOP primary candidate also detailed the impracticality of these vehicles while pointing out that EVs benefit China, which provides many of the input materials for electric cars. “But I will not allow all electric cars, I’m gonna have all kinds of cars, because the electric mandate is is a disaster. They don’t go far enough. They cost too much. We don’t have the materials to make them but China does. And you’ve heard me say it 100 times,” the former president added.
