“Dangerous Legislation that Would Be Used Against…Churches”: Rev. Graham Blows Up on RMA, RINOs Enabling It

Reverend Franklin Graham, son of famed evangelist Billy Graham, went on the attack against the “Respect for Marriage Act” and those RINOs that have chosen to support it.

Speaking on the matter in the first of a pair of Facebook posts, Rev. Graham first attacked the RMA for failing “to protect those…who believe marriage is between a man and woman” and claiming that it would be used as a bludgeon with which the enemies of traditional marriage would attack those who still stand up for traditional marriage. In his words (emphasis ours):

The Respect for Marriage Act is coming before the Senate again on Monday. Why should that matter to you? Because it could impact you, your family, your church, and our nation. The name is a smoke-screen. Very deceptive. It’s like the Democrat’s “Inflation Reduction Act” that did nothing but increase inflation and further hurt our economy.

The current version of the Respect for Marriage Act being pushed by Senator Chuck Schumer is designed to provide strong protections for same-sex marriage—but it fails to protect those of us who believe marriage is between a man and a woman. It is dangerous legislation that would be used against individuals, churches, and organizations who honor traditional marriage.

In the same post, he went on to call on Americans to demand their senators ensure traditional marriage and those who support it are protected, saying:

Thankfully, Senator Mike Lee has now proposed an important amendment that can improve the Respect for Marriage Act. The Lee Amendment, if approved, can bring critically-needed protection for religious liberty and rights of conscience to the pending legislation. Many say this is a long shot, but we desperately need Senators to demand the Lee Amendment be added to the current version of the Respect for Marriage Act before it is finalized. Call your Senators as soon as possible and ask them to vote YES for the Lee Amendment—or to vote NO to the Respect for Marriage Act if it doesn’t have this amendment. Time is short—freedom-loving people have to take action before it’s too late.

That wasn’t all. In a followup post Reverend Graham skewered the RINOs that are helping the Democrats with getting the RMA passed, saying:

It is very disappointing that these 12 Republican senators would side with the Democrats and ultra-liberal Senator Chuck Schumer to put the vast majority of Americans who believe in and support marriage between a man and a woman in jeopardy.

Continuing, Rev. Graham went on to then again highlight the problems with the RMA and called on people to call their Senators, saying:

The deceptively-named Respect for Marriage Act that Senator Schumer is trying to push through is just a smokescreen to give more protections to same-sex marriage—and it doesn’t protect the religious liberties of those who support traditional marriage. In fact, it would make individuals, churches, academic institutions, and organizations who stand with marriage between a man and a woman in danger of persecution and legal attacks because of their convictions.

The Respect for Marriage Act is coming up again before Congress on Monday. Email or call your senators to make sure they know that you do not want them to support the Respect for Marriage Act unless it includes the LEE AMENDMENT—to protect you. If added, the Lee Amendment affirms that individuals and organizations will still have the right to act according to their faith and deepest convictions. Pray for our leaders in Washington.
