First Lady Jill Biden has been on the campaign trail as apparently Joe has been revisiting the basement, and recently, she made a stop in Utah. Biden did a speaking engagement in the Beehive State at a school in West Valley City, just southwest of Salt Lake City. The stop was intended to visit faculty, hear the school choir, and deliver a few remarks to the attendees.
While the First Lady did exactly all of those things, including reportedly talking about the value of education and the importance of teachers, it was the optics of the visit that raised eyebrows and collective laughs from social media. Apparently, Biden’s team made some unfortunate decisions regarding signage for the First Lady, or failing that, neglected to notice the curious messaging from the school signs.
As Biden spoke about education, hung directly under her, attached to the podium was a sign saying “Hunter High.” The school is called Hunter High, which happens to be an unintentionally humorous take on the continued hijinks of the first son, Hunter Biden. The First Son has been accused of numerous drug and gun-related offenses and has a long, storied history of drug use and abuse.
Naturally, social media had a hearty chuckle at the unintended truth bomb. Angela Morabito, a spokeswoman for the Defense of Freedom Institute, said: “Jill Biden trying to distract from her comments about Hunter’s drug abuse, and ending up under a giant banner reading ‘Hunter High,’ is straight out of a VEEP episode.” VEEP was a fictional show about a bumbling Vice President played by Seinfeld legend Julia Louis-Dreyfus.
Rep. Andy Biggs, R-Ariz. hilariously posted on X: “You can’t make this stuff up. Jill Biden speaking at a school named ‘Hunter High.’ Appropriately named!” Hunter Biden’s struggles and misadventures have been well documented, from the infamous laptop that the mainstream media insisted was a right-wing conspiracy to his shady business dealings overseas.
Jill Biden defended him recently, as best she could: “I think what they are doing to Hunter is cruel. And I’m really proud of how Hunter has rebuilt his life after addiction. I love my son, and it’s had — it’s hurt my grandchildren, and that’s what I’m so concerned about, that it’s affecting their lives as well.” It is difficult to feel sympathy for any of the Biden clan, considering the protection Hunter has received from the DOJ.
Social media doesn’t care about the First Son’s struggles. The Federalist’s Mollie Hemingway said: “An award should be given to the White House advance staffer who organized an event for Jill Biden with signs such as these,” and William J. Smith, a strategic communications professional based in New Jersey, joked, “As someone who’s done a lot of ‘advance’ work in politics, I’m really curious who screwed up & approved this podium sign for [First Lady Jill Biden]. Either that or they’re trolling us.”
Few on the left are laughing along with social media. Certainly, some people may genuinely feel bad for Biden and buy into his stories of redemption, but most liberals have no sense of humor. Comedy has died a slow death under Joe Biden but hopefully is returning as the election nears.
