A Domino’s delivery driver who has been described as the “backbone” of his family was murdered in mid-January by three individuals who wanted to steal the pizza he was delivering. The three suspects have been arrested by the police and are now facing felony murder charges.
A nearby surveillance camera captured video of the incident. It shows the three men, whom a witness alleges planned trying to “snatch” the pizza, approaching the delivery man, 33-year-old Antoine Gee Jr., and getting into a struggle with him. Then, one of the three suspects drew a handgun and shot Mr. Gee, after which all three suspects fled the scene.
Describing the charges and naming the three suspects in a press statement released on Friday, January 19, the Milwaukee Police Department said, “On Friday, January 19, 2024, the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office issued criminal charges against Armier E. McArthur, Keyshaun T.L. McNealy and Damain N. Patrick in connection to a homicide.”
Continuing, the statement briefly described the incident and what charges the three individuals face, saying, “The incident occurred on Wednesday, January 10, 2024, at approximately 10:10 p.m., on the 4400 block of N. Sherman Boulevard. McArthur, McNealy and Patrick were each charged with one count of Felony Murder. If convicted, they could face up to 55 years.”
A GoFundMe was created for Mr. Gee’s family by Patrice Toliver, his father. In the description for the GoFundMe fundraiser, Mr. Toliver said that Gee was the backbone of his family and was investing as a way to keep the family prosperous, saying, “To the media he’s just a pizza delivery man, but to his family he was the backbone. He was a truck driver, a landlord, a brother, a nephew, an investor.”
Continuing, and explaining the family tragedy and for what purpose the money brought in by the fundraiser would be used, Mr. Toliver wrote, “On January 10th I lost my oldest child, my only son. My son was gunned down while delivering pizza. While this has been a very stressful time, making funeral arrangements for my only son has been a lot. Please feel free to donate or share my link to help me lay my son to rest peacefully. Thank you.l“
Similarly to Mr. Toliver’s heartfelt and brokenhearted comments about his deceased son, a longtime friend of Mr. Gee, Asia Ferguson, said, “I don’t think I’ll ever heal this wound. It will never heal. My heart is broken.” Ferguson, describing what it was like to learn of Mr. Gee’s death, said, “My sister called me and was like, ‘Tone is dead.’ I’ve been up since I got that call. My heart has, like, a hole in it.”
Ferguson also commented on the shockingly meaningless nature of his death, saying, “Over nothing. He would’ve gave it to y’all, and you didn’t even give him a chance.” Ferguson added that Gee loved his work, saying, “He was just working to be working. He didn’t have to do it, helping other people. He died doing what he loved to do.”
