Taking major action to crack down on pedophilia and those promoting it, the Russian parliament, the Duma, just passed a law that bans the advertising of pro-pedophilic viewpoints.
The law also bans the promotion of any “non-traditional sexual relations or preferences”, which would include gay marriage and the like, things that have become widely adopted in the liberal West since the Obama presidency.
The Duma announced the new law and what it entails in a recently released press release, saying (emphasis ours):
Deputies of the State Duma unanimously adopted in the third reading a law aimed at banning the distribution of materials promoting non-traditional sexual relations or preferences. The authors of the amendments were Chairman of the State Duma Vyacheslav Volodin , leaders of all factions and more than 300 deputies of the State Duma.
Propaganda will be prohibited both among minors and adults. Propaganda of pedophilia and gender reassignment is also prohibited.
[…]The law also expands the requirements for advertising, which should not contain information that demonstrates non-traditional sexual relations or preferences. Films promoting such relationships will not receive a distribution certificate.
[…]So, for violation of the ban on propaganda of non-traditional sexual relations or preferences among people of any age, a fine of 50 thousand to 400 thousand rubles for citizens, from 100 thousand to 800 thousand – for officials, from 800 thousand to 5 million or suspension of activities up to 90 days – for legal entities.
For violating the ban on promoting pedophilia, the fine will be from 200,000 to 800,000 rubles for citizens, from 400,000 to 2 million for officials, from 1 million to 10 million rubles or suspension of activities for up to 90 days for legal entities.
Also, for the dissemination of information among minors that demonstrates non-traditional sexual relations or that can make them want to change their sex, the fine will be from 50 thousand to 200 thousand rubles for citizens, from 100 thousand to 400 thousand – for officials, from 800 thousand up to 4 million rubles or suspension of activities up to 90 days – for legal entities.
For such violations, foreign citizens and stateless persons will face expulsion from the Russian Federation.
The law was framed by the Chairman of the State Duma, Vyacheslav Volodin, as a direct response to US Secretary of State Blinken, who they perceived as actively promoting those non-traditional sexual relationships and pushing the allowance of them on the world.
Speaking on the issue and describing the law, Volodin described America as “this sodom in the world,” saying:
“There is no need to impose alien values on us. You destroyed yours – we’ll see how it all ends, but it’s definitely sad, because this is sodom – there’s no other way to say it – and the United States of America has become the center of this sodom in the world. Let them live there, but don’t bother us.”
Secretary of State Blinken had pressured the Duma to withdraw the law. It did not do so, adding more emphasis to Volodin’s arguments.
