County folks tend to live differently from other people. What city people consider dirty and unseemly may be the day-to-day of a person living on a farm in Oklahoma. Of course, that doesn’t necessarily mean one way is right, and the other is wrong. It certainly may not be recommended in some parts of America to drink from a creek or even from the municipal water supply, to be honest.
However, it could possibly explain the heartier disposition of a country person as opposed to a city slicker. Being exposed to germs and dirt is actually good for a human’s immune system, regardless of what certain government officials might say. Recently, one of the more beloved celebrities, Reese Witherspoon, took some heat for enjoying a cold treat from the sky.
The “Legally Blonde” star resides in Nashville, Tennessee, which doesn’t get much yearly snowfall. When several inches fell recently, Witherspoon took to TikTok to make a rare treat. The 47-year-old actress captioned: “Snow days were made for Chococinnos,” as she scraped snow from her car into a mug.
The “Morning Show” star then added cold brew, salted caramel, and chocolate syrup and enjoyed a tasty sky beverage for her TikTok followers. Naturally, the internet experts and clean freaks emerged from the woodwork. One user wrote: “No no no.. snow is not made to eat.. u can get seriously sick,” while another pondered the deep thought, “I thought eating snow was like dangerous to our health.”
Witherspoon was born in Louisiana but lived in Germany and ultimately settled in Nashville. She is no stranger to small-town life and country living and is fiercely proud of her southern heritage. She shot back: “OK, talking about the snow not being filtered, I didn’t grow up drinking filtered water. We drank out of the tap water. We actually put our mouths on the tap and then sometimes like in the summer, when it was hot, we drank out of the hose, like, we put our mouth on the hose, growing up.”
Many Americans grew up drinking from a well or a cistern. There was no filtration system involved in most cases, and cistern water was usually collected from the roof of a building and funneled into the concrete tank. Needless to say, it wasn’t completely pure, but it also wasn’t unhealthy. The “Sweet Home Alabama” star flippantly continued: “Maybe that’s why I’m like this. So what you’re saying to me is I have to filter the snow before I eat it? I just can’t. Filtered snow. I don’t know how to do that. It’s clear! Is this bad? Am I not supposed to eat snow?”
Other TikTok experts weren’t so critical. One said: “Fallen snow can be very dirty from the air and wind but who cares. You only live once. I remember eating snow as a kid,” The amiable star responded: “OK, so we’re kind of in a category of ‘You only live once,’ and it snows maybe once a year here. I don’t know! Also, I want to say something: It was delicious. It was so good.”
It is a nice distraction from the hate and venom of social media to see a cute, bubbly celeb like Witherspoon playfully joust with concerned fans. Nashville doesn’t get snow that often, and how dirty could it be? Hopefully, Reese Witherspoon survives her tasty snow snack, and TikTok allows her to be a country girl. Take a look below:
