Fox News Host Laura Ingraham recently called for Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis to suspend his presidential campaign following Donald Trump’s impressive victory at the Iowa Caucuses. Trump’s massive win has led many to conclude that the former president is the unquestionable Republican candidate who will take on Joe Biden in a rematch of the 2020 election.
Trump won the Iowa Caucuses by a considerable margin, securing over 50% of the vote and winning 98 of the 99 counties. The American Tribune reported that Trump’s record-breaking victory had the largest margin ever for a contested Republican caucus in the state. DeSantis finished second behind Trump, trailing 30 points.
Ingraham suggested that both Ron DeSantis and Nikki Haley withdraw from the primary race as it appears inevitable Donald Trump will secure the nomination. However, the Fox News host noted that DeSantis has led an impressive campaign, noting that he could further sharpen his reputation as governor in Florida.
“Now, let’s start with DeSantis,” Ingraham said. “He out-performed last night. He beat Nikki Haley’s war chest, so he has a lot to be proud of. As a candidate on the trail, he worked his butt off. And people forget how young he is. So, with what – three more years as Florida’s governor? He can build an even greater track record of success in that very important state. So, a future in the Republican Party for him could be really bright.”
Ingraham further emphasized how competing against Trump within the Republican party is an exercise in futility, pointing out that the former president is “simply too powerful.” With little to gain in continuing to fight Trump, she added that failing to step aside and endorse Trump could only hurt DeSantis’ future political aspirations.
“But he’s simply not gonna be president this time around,” she added. “I know it’s hard to hear. You worked really hard for it. It’s not happening. Trump is simply too powerful and has endured too much. Voters aren’t gonna turn their backs on him at this point. And every day that Ron DeSantis stays on the campaign trail criticizing Trump is a day that hurts Ron DeSantis’ political future. He doesn’t gain anything from it. That’s for sure. And Trump, he’s not hurt by it at all. So it’s time to step aside and endorse Trump.”

After the Iowa caucuses, many prominent figures in Republican politics have thrown their support behind Donald Trump as it becomes increasingly clear he will win the nomination. Sen. Ted Cruz concluded that the Republican primary race is basically “over” after Trump’s victory, where he officially endorsed the former president.
“I’m a big believer in letting democracy play out,” he said. “Well, last night it played out and I gotta say, Trump’s victory was across the board, he won 51% of the vote, he won 98 of the counties. Congratulations to President Trump on that dominating victory. And at this point, I believe this race is over. So I am proud to endorse Donald Trump for President of the United States, I look forward to supporting him enthusiastically because I think it’s time for the Republican Party to unite, for us to come together.”
