The Evangelical Lutheran Church of Iceland apologized for running an ad that featured the Son of God as “genderqueer” in a satanic effort to virtue signal its support for the LGBT community. They have since wildly backtracked after backlash was appropriately intense.
Defending the attempt at inclusivity in the name of desecrating the Holy Trinity, the church’s media representative Petur Georg Markan declared that the outreach was merely a logical response to adapting to today’s world. In other words, he stands for nothing.
“In one sense, we see a Jesus who has breasts and a beard,” Markan said. “We’re trying to embrace society as it is. We have all sorts of people and we need to train ourselves to talk about Jesus as being ‘all sorts’ in this context.”
“Especially because it’s really important that each and every person see themselves in Jesus and that we don’t stagnate too much,” he continued. “That’s the essential message. So this is OK. It’s OK that Jesus has a beard and breasts.”
Aside from deviating from two-thousand years of a theological understanding and practical application denoting Jesus as male, the logic from Markan is woefully absurd. If the intent was to allow everyone to see themselves in the Messiah, one fails to see how the incorporation of a bearded, bosomy savior appeals to most human beings. Quite simply, it does the opposite.
Markan was not alone in his indefensible defense of this atrocity. Grafarvogskirkja church minister Guorun Karls-og Helgudottir shared a similar perspective, saying “Each person interprets something in this picture. Some people interpret it as a trans Jesus, others as a woman.” She continued by saying “[s]ome see Mary with a beard, and others see a genderqueer person. Views within the church are just as diverse as elsewhere.”
As if this wasn’t bad enough, OutSpoken reported that the person responsible for this horrific depiction is currently working on additional ad campaigns that feature Jesus as a champion of environmentalism and countless other social justice and communist causes.
The same artist who created the “genderqueer Jesus” now is turning to work on a new marketing campaign that will show a number of different “personifications” of Christ, according to reports, including one where he is advocating for environmental issues
In a statement released following the much-needed backlash to the ad campaign, the Icelandic church issued a tepid apology, saying: “The 2020 Assembly of the National Church regrets that the picture of Jesus in a Sunday school advertisement has hurt people. The goal was to emphasise diversity, not to hurt people or shock them.”
Notice they don’t regret doing it; they regret how people responded to it. Make no mistake, this will simply keep happening.
As one commenter on Twitter rightfully observed, the desecration of Christianity is unique to the abjectly cruel critiques and destruction of religion. He points out that it is unfathomable to imagine this same artist taking such liberty with Islam’s Mohammed.
I somehow doubt they would have done this with Muhammad. pic.twitter.com/kiNRimnrtU
