While saying grace before digging into a meal is a common practice for religious individuals and households across faith groups, a toddler in Texas took it to a whole new level when she taught the family’s three dogs to “say grace” before they dig into their food. The heartwarming video of her doing so went viral on the Instagram of the toddler’s mom, Katie Brim, getting more than a million likes.
That young girl is Alora Brim. A three-year-old from the town of Round Rock, Texas, she’s the star of the viral video and the teacher of grace to the three dogs. In the video, Alora, who is the youngest of four kids in the Brim household, approaches the three dogs with their food bowls.
Then, after going outside to the family’s back door to the three dogs, all eagerly anticipating their meal, she stops them from digging in to their meals. Instead of letting them eat, she demands they “say grace,” at which point all three dogs lie down. Then, after they do so, she claps her hands and says, “Amen,” at which point the dogs ravenously wolf down their food.
Speaking to Fox News Digital about the background to the video, Alora’s father, Freddy Brimm, said, “I’d seen a sketch of dogs that actually cover their snout to say grace.” Continuing, he told Fox News Digital, “I wanted them to wait to eat and then get released to eat, kind of a way of establishing that control that will make them wait, and we give them permission to eat.”
Then Alora wanted to help with the chores and took that to a new level, turning it from a way to teach the dogs discipline to a way to teach them about grace. Freddy Brim, speaking on that, said, “She wants to help with all the chores.” He continued, speaking about how she got in on the grace part, “So, she’s been helping carry the food out to them, and she started mimicking me.”
But while she got the idea of making them wait to eat from her dad, she came up with the idea of calling the waiting period grace on her own. According to Mr. Brim, he and his wife didn’t know what she was saying, and it took a minute for them to figure out that she was teaching them to say grace. Then she took over the feeding completely. “Now, that’s kind of her thing, so I’m not allowed to feed the dogs,” he joked to Fox News Digital.
Katie Brim, who added that they never let Alora feed the dogs without at least some supervision, also noted the importance of being present for one’s family and taking in ever little moment. She said, “Being present and being grateful for even the small things, like having your dogs that your children love so much … is important to me.”
