Monday, January 15, was a night of a massive win for former President Donald Trump and his 2024 presidential campaign, as he won the Iowa Caucuses with 51% of the vote. That means he won 20 of the state’s 40 delegates and came away with the biggest margin of victory ever for a contested Republican caucus in the state.
The previous record win in Iowa for a contested Republican caucus was in 1988. That win was won by the Bob Dole campaign, which won it with a 12.8 point margin of victory. Trump, by contrast, came away with a whopping 29.7 point victory over DeSantis, who came in second place with 21 points of electoral support from the Iowa GOP electorate.
But that result, more than a doubling of the previous record-breaking margin of victory, was not Trump’s only record-breaking win in the state. He also, Breitbart reports, appears to have won the highest share of the vote in the history of the Iowa Republican caucus. According to that outlet:
What is more, Trump appears to have garnered the highest vote share in Iowa Republican caucus history. Former President George Bush had performed the best of any Republican candidate going back to 1972 with 41 percent, data from the Des Moines Public Library shows.
Trump spoke after the massive primary win, calling on Americans to come together to straighten out their problems and strengthen America, a major shift in tone for a presidential candidate many on the right are counting on to get revenge after he wins the 2024 election.
In his remarks, Trump said, ” I really think this is time now for everybody, our country to come together. We want to come together. Whether it’s Republican or Democrat or liberal or conservative, it would be so nice if we could come together and straighten out the world and straighten out the problem.”
Watch him here:
But then, the morning after his victory, Trump went back to scorching Manhattan AG Letitia James on Truth Social, writing, “After a historic win in Iowa, I am going to the Biden encouraged Witch Hunt in Lower Manhattan to fight against a FAKE Case from a woman I have never met, seen, or touched (Celebrity Lines don’t count!).”
Continuing, he wrote, “Naturally, it starts right after Iowa, and during the very important New Hampshire Primary where, despite their sinister attempts, I will be tonight! It is a giant Election Interference Scam, pushed and financed by political operatives. I had no idea who this woman was. PURE FICTION!”
Vivek, for his part, threw his support behind Trump after Trump’s big win, writing, “This entire campaign is about speaking the TRUTH. We did not achieve our goal tonight & we need an America-First patriot in the White House. The people spoke loud & clear about who they want. Tonight I am suspending my campaign and endorsing Donald J. Trump and will do everything I can to make sure he is the next U.S. President. I am enormously proud of this team, this movement, and our country.”
