During a Fox News Channel-hosted town hall campaign event in Iowa on Wednesday night, former President Donald Trump sounded off on Hunter Biden and what Hunter was up to. Further, the former president rebutted accusations of corruption directed against him and his company from the days of his administration.
One of the best moments for Trump was when he contrasted how he and his companies make money compared to how Hunter Biden collected checks from around the world and for his middling at best art, saying that he (Trump) actually had to work for a living to make his fortune by providing value.
Commenting on that, Trump ridiculed Hunter Biden for his money collected on paintings and for other money collecting ventures over the past few decades, saying, “I don’t get $8 million for doing nothing like Hunter. I don’t get I don’t get $500,000. I don’t get $500,000 for doing a painting.”
Continuing, Trump also said that he thought there was no way Hunter would have been able to get away with the art venture given the optics of it, saying, “It’s not a bad idea, I guess, if you can get away with it. When I heard that when I said there’s no way they get away with that. But they got away with that. I guess they got away with it.”
Trump also referenced the lawsuit against him regarding his hotels and profits from them, saying that he won the suit. He said, “Now we have you know, there was an emoluments lawsuit against me where the radical left, sued me for that, and I won the suit.”
Further developing his point on that front, Trump argued that the money wasn’t “free,” but instead just the ordinary operation of his hotels, and that he gave back much of the money earned, in any case. He said, “I own hotels, all over the, I don’t get free money. Somebody rents a hotel room, etc, etc. Much money I gave back. In fact, I didn’t have to do it.”
Expanding on that point yet more, Trump compared himself to George Washington and how Washington kept operating his business operations during his presidency, saying, “You know, George Washington was a very rich man. People don’t know that, in his essentially White House, which wasn’t built, but they had an office, he had a business desk and he had a country desk right next to each other. You’re allowed to do that. I didn’t do it.”
Trump then returned to his situation, saying that he had put his business in a trust to separate his decision-making from it, telling Iowa voters,”I put everything in trust. And if I have a hotel and somebody comes in from China, that’s a small amount of money. And it sounds like a lot of money. That’s a small. But I was doing services for that. People were staying in these massive hotels, these beautiful hotels, because I have the best hotels, I have the best clubs, I have the best clubs, I have great stuff and they stay there and they pay.”
