Recently, Democrats and the mainstream media have pushed for Republican lawmakers to support approximately $14 billion in funding that would allegedly hide the ongoing migrant crisis as the 2024 presidential election campaign rolls around. One of Joe Biden’s most significant critiques of his administration is the out-of-control illegal immigration from the unsecured southern border.
“They ought to give me the money — I need to protect the border,” Biden recently told reporters regarding his “Emergency Supplemental” funding request. However, House Speaker Mike Johnson and other Republican leaders have suggested that if President Biden is provided the funding he requests, it would accelerate the crisis instead of mitigating it.
Johnson recently appeared on CNN, where he explained to host Jake Tapper that the Biden administration would utilize the funds to allow more migration to occur, maintaining Republicans should do the “opposite” of what the president is suggesting. “What the White House is proposing is more money to process and allow more illegals into the country,” Johnson said. “We need to do the opposite of that.”
According to reports, during Biden’s presidency, billions of American taxpayer dollars have been dedicated toward bringing in at least six million migrants into the country. Critics have suggested the funding Biden is requesting would assist non-profit organizations in transporting and sheltering migrants across the nation’s cities. Furthermore, reports indicate that resources would be dedicated to developing “Safe Mobility Offices” in other countries to assist migrants in reaching the U.S. border.
Jessica Vaughn, founder of the Immigration Accountability Project, discussed the potential impacts of unfettered immigration, stating, “I think it’s going to have a huge impact on suburban America.” She further outlined how the funding would be insufficient to deal with the massive scale of the migrant crisis as it stands now.
“There’s not enough money, even in the $14 billion … with the numbers that are coming over right now. … People are seeing it, and they’re gonna keep seeing it. They’re going to see it in the schools. They’re going to see it in their emergency rooms, they’re going to see it in their housing costs. They’re going to see it everywhere,” Vaughn said.
“Their children are going to come home and and talk about all the foreign languages being spoken. And if they’re, you know, if they happen to live in a suburban neighborhood and the house next door is rented out to four different families who are living there at the same time, they’re going to see that too,” she added.
As there is no end in sight to the inflow of migrants in the American interior, Democrat state leaders are stepping up their demands for federal funding. “States like Massachusetts are in desperate need of more support from the federal government to address this historic surge in migrant arrivals,” Democrat Gov. Maura Healey of Massachusetts pleaded. “We need Congress to act on President Biden’s budget that includes critical funding for border security and cities and states like ours.”
“I can tell you that the [$14 billion] money right now will help those cities that are struggling, whether it’s Eagle Pass or if we’re talking about Chicago, or if we’re talking about New York,” said Texas Rep. Jasmine Crockett. “I can guarantee you those mayors would not turn down the funding that the President has tried to push through and the Republicans refuse to do it,” she added.
