Technology didn’t help out a burglar in Colorado who attempted to make off with thousands of dollars in stolen goods, but was caught by cops when waiting on his getaway car…an Uber he had ordered to escape the crime scene. A wild video released by the local police department shows the officers arresting the burglary suspect while asking if he was waiting for an Uber.
The police department involved was the Wheat Ridge Police Department, which sent officers to respond to a burglary call and found a bizarre scene on their arrival, as a man was waiting for an Uber with thousands of dollars’s worth of stolen tools in his backpack.
Posting about the bizarre incident on Facebook, the police department led off by noting the imbecility of calling an Uber to pick you up at the scene of your burglary, writing, “It may not be the best idea to have an Uber pick you up AT the crime scene.”
Continuing, the department described the incident and how police officers from the department found out that it was going on, writing, “Thursday night, Wheat Ridge Police Officers responded to a burglary call at Blue Sky Plumbing, after a 911 caller saw a hole in the fence and advised they had security footage of a man stealing tools.”
Next, the department described how it dealt with the Uber situation, saying, “Our officers got on scene quickly and contacted an Uber driver who was waiting in the area. The driver said he was picking up a man named Jose at Blue Sky Plumbing, and his passenger was walking to the car.”
The officers promptly arrested the suspected burglar and found the stolen goods in his backpack, as the department described, writing, “Wheat Ridge Police Officers intercepted the man, who provided a fake name and were able to find a backpack with more than $8,600 worth of Milwaukee brand tools. The suspect was taken back to the police department, where fingerprint scanners confirmed his real identity.”
Concluding, the department noted that it is recommending the suspect be charged with numerous offenses by the local DA, writing, “We’ll be recommending a felony theft charge, along with six misdemeanor charges to our partners at the First Judicial DA’s Office of Colorado.”

Commenting on the department’s post, one individual described her company’s difficulty in dealing with a similar robber situation, saying, “I’m so glad they found the guy. We’ve had several ex employees come to our yard and steal equipment. We even had a guy tell us to purchase over 12k of equipment to start our new Sewer Division and then he quit a week later and came to our yard and stole everything and started his own company. I’m so happy that for Blue Sky Plumbing it ended better than our situation. Make sure to press charges, this ends up happening all the time and no one faces the consequences.”
