Former President Donald Trump pulled no punches when swinging back at President Joe Biden over remarks President Biden made about the events on January 6, 2021, during a campaign speech in Valley Forge, Pennsylvania. Responding to Biden’s attacks, former President Trump called Biden the “true threat to democracy.”
As background, Biden spent most of his Valley Forge campaign speech rambling about “democracy” and attacking Trump and the MAGA voters in the Republican Party for being threats to that supposed democracy while presenting himself and Kamala Harris as the saviors of “democracy.”
In the speech, President Biden said, “Today, we gather in a new year, some 246 years later, just one day before January 6th, a day forever shared in our memory because it was on that day that we nearly lost America — lost it all. Today, we’re here to answer the most important of questions. Is democracy still America’s sacred cause? I mean it.”
Continuing, he added, “This is not rhetorical, academic, or hypothetical. Whether democracy is still America’s sacred cause is the most urgent question of our time, and it’s what the 2024 election is all about. The choice is clear. Donald Trump’s campaign is about him, not America, not you. Donald Trump’s campaign is obsessed with the past, not the future. He’s willing to sacrifice our democracy, put himself in power.”
President Biden then said, “our campaign is about preserving and strengthening our American democracy. Three years ago tomorrow, we saw with our own eyes the violent mob storm the United States Capitol. It was almost in disbelief as you first turned on the television. For the first time on our history, insurrectionists had come to stop the peaceful tranfer — transfer of power in America — first time — smashing windows, shattering doors, attacking the police.”
During the speech, Biden also said, “In trying to rewrite the facts of January 6th, Trump is trying to steal history the same way he tried to steal the election. But he — we knew the truth because we saw it with our own eyes. It wasn’t like something — a story being told. It was on television repeatedly. We saw it with our own eyes. Trump’s mob wasn’t a peaceful protest. It was a violent assault. They were insurrectionists, not patriots. They weren’t there to uphold the Constitution; they were there to destroy the Constitution.”
Former President Donald Trump responded to Biden’s criticisms in an interview with Fox News Digital, saying, “The Democrats rigged the last election and they are trying it again. But it won’t work because they have shown how bad and incompetent they are.”
He continued, calling Joe a traitor that is destroying America: “Joe Biden is the worst president in the history of the United States — he is incompetent, he is crooked, and in many respects, he is Benedict Arnold. He is destroying our country like no one else has done before.”
Then, describing the consequences of Biden’s open border, said that the US has “an invasion of millions of people, many from prisons, mental institutions and terrorists pouring into our country.” And, pointing the finger of blame squarely at Joe, Trump said, “He is responsible for this. We are a failing nation — a nation in decline — and it is all because he is the worst president in the history of our country.”
Then, turning the tables of “democracy” blame on Biden, Trump said that “because of his gross incompetence, Joe Biden is a true threat to democracy.” He added that the situation requires real leadership, saying, “This is not a time for us to have a mentally challenged president.”
