The release of the Epstein documents is closely upon us, and now some high-profile television stars are making sure to state that their names will not appear on the client list. Whoopi Goldberg has now joined Jimmy Kimmel on the growing list of celebrities who saw it necessary to make a statement clarifying that they had no relationship with Epstein’s business.
With the internet swirling with rumors about which celebrities and big-time politicians may find their names on the list, many are trying to get out ahead of the release by saying that there is no way their name will appear since they were never clients. That is what Whoopi chose to do on a recent taping of “The View.”
She started by saying unequivocally that she never traveled to the island that Epstein used to concoct his massive scheme, which roped in so many famous and influential people. She also used the opportunity as a way to dispel other rumors about herself, ranging from a tiff with Oprah and being kicked out of of celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay’s restaurant.
In a blurb shared by People, Whoopi said, “Apparently, they said I was on the island. And I don’t go anywhere! So I’m just going to say — and there’s just been a lot of stuff recently, I don’t know what I’ve done to anybody — but apparently there are a lot of the [tabloid] sites [and] people don’t realize they can be harmful.”
She continued, “I never got kicked out of Gordon Ramsay’s restaurant. I never got kicked out of Guy Fieri’s restaurant. I didn’t get kicked off Bill Maher’s show. I didn’t get into a fight with Oprah backstage here at The View. I mean, it just goes — it’s insane. It goes on and on and on.”
Whoopi then turned her attention to satirical sights that she thinks have started untrue rumors about her dealings in the past. She warned her fans not to trust satirical news and said that the sites should be enforced more closely and made to take certain precautions to make certain that no one falls for the satire without being made aware that the news is untrue.
Goldberg said, “once someone is cleared of their insanity, they’re going to call their lawyer on you. … It’s important for people to recognize what is satire. And it’s important for the people who put these sites out to say in big bold writing, ‘This is satire.’”
Just like Goldberg, Jimmy Kimmel recently defended himself against a satirical accusation from Aaron Rodgers on the matter. Kimmel wrote on Twitter, “Dear Aasshole: for the record, I’ve not met, flown with, visited, or had any contact whatsoever with Epstein, nor will you find my name on any “list” other than the clearly-phony nonsense that soft-brained wackos like yourself can’t seem to distinguish from reality. Your reckless words put my family in danger. Keep it up and we will debate the facts further in court.”
