House Republicans Announce, Set Date for Long-Awaited Mayorkas Impeachment Hearing

The GOP-controlled House of Representatives has finally set a date for when it will begin its long-awaited impeachment hearing for Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas. The House Homeland Security Committee will begin the effort on January 10th, the day that Congress comes back from its Christmas break.

Such is what House Homeland Security Committee Chairman Mark Green, told Punchbowl News, saying that the committee has been investigating the conduct of Secretary Mayorkas and his office and has determined that his refusal to defend the border and enforce the law has been a breach of his oath of office.

Speaking on that, Congressman Green said, “Our investigation made clear that this crisis finds its foundation in Secretary Mayorkas’ decision-making and refusal to enforce the laws passed by Congress, and that his failure to fulfill his oath of office demands accountability.”

Continuing, he then announced the date, which is Wednesday, January 3, saying, “The bipartisan House vote in November to refer articles of impeachment to my Committee only served to highlight the importance of our taking up the impeachment process – which is what we will begin doing next Wednesday.”

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, posting about the impeachment of Mayorkas on Elon Musk’s X, said, “I’m proud to have led the charge to IMPEACH Secretary Mayorkas for months in the House of Representatives. Before the House left Washington for Christmas break, I forced a vote on my impeachment resolution that put every member on the record. Unfortunately, some Republicans joined every single Democrat to block the resolution and save Mayorkas’s job.”

She continued, “I reintroduced my resolution the very next week and pulled it only once I was guaranteed we would impeach Mayorkas in January. Well, I’m happy to report that the first official impeachment hearing for Secretary Mayorkas will be taking place next Wednesday! #ImpeachMayorkas”

Commenting and putting the members of the GOP that supported Mayorkas on blast, one furious conservative said, “Who voted against impeachment for Mayorkas? Who are the Republicans that voted with every Democrat in The House of Representatives to save Mayorkas from impeachment? They need to be voted out if we ever have a fair election. We need to know their names.”

Secretary Mayorkas, for his part, has been trying to insist that he is defending the border. For example, in a recent series of tweets about immigration enforcement, Mayorkas said, “The United States, and our partners across the region, are continuing to enforce consequences for irregular migration, including direct repatriation flights to Venezuela. @ICEgov conducted another repatriation flight to Venezuela this week, as did the Government of Mexico.”

He continued, “Our message to migrants is clear: use the lawful migration pathways that we have significantly expanded. The U.S. continues to remove those who have no legal basis to remain back to their countries of origin, including Venezuela.” He then added, “We also continue to work with our partners, including Mexico, to expand lawful pathways and coordinate enforcement measures against those who do not use them.”
