UPDATE 11/27: This race is still being fought about, but Politifact discredited many of the rumors about the election day results in an article, finding that “No evidence has emerged of widespread voter fraud in Arizona, just as it didn’t in the 2020 election.” and “We rate claims that the Arizona gubernatorial race was fraudulent Pants on Fire!”
The Arizona gubernatorial race, between MAGA Republican Kari Lake and Democrat challenger Katie Hobbs, has been hotly contested.
In the aftermath of a disastrous election day riddled with problems, all eyes have been focused on Maricopa County.
Recently, the Arizona attorney general’s office ordered Maricopa County election officials to file a report on the “botched handling” of the state election on November 8.
A letter from the election integrity unit of Attorney General Mark Brnovich’s office alleged there were “statutory violations“:
“The Elections Integrity Unit (“Unit”) of the Arizona Attorney General’s Office (“AGO”) has received hundreds of complaints since Election Day pertaining to issues related to the administration of the 2022 General Election in Maricopa County. These complaints go beyond pure speculation, but include first-hand witness accounts that raise concerns regarding Maricopa’s lawful compliance with Arizona election law. Furthermore, statements made by both Chairman Gates and Recorder Richer, along with information Maricopa County released through official modes of communication appear to confirm potential statutory violations of title 16.”
“….Arizonans deserve a full report and accounting of the myriad problems that occurred in relation to Maricopa County’s administration of the 2022 General Election. As the canvass is looming, and these issues relate to Maricopa County’s ability to lawfully certify election results – the Unit requests a response to the aforementioned issues on or before Maricopa County submits its official canvass to the Secretary of State, which must occur on or before November 28, 2022.”
The letter details many of the issues that occurred in Arizona on election day, which drew skepticism and scrutiny from all around the country.
The first issue pointed out was the widespread glitches and malfunctions that occurred in conservative-voting areas.
Voter testimony suggests that some were turned away when trying to vote, had their ballots rejected, or the ballots were tabulated improperly.
Prior to the election, Lake was leading in polls by double digits and some feel these convenient glitches allowed Hobbs to surge ahead.
The letter from the attorney generals office also points out potential legal violations regarding the “segregating, counting, tabulating, tallying, and transporting” of ballots.
There were first-hand accounts alleging blatant violations of these election procedures which could have affected the outcome of the race.
Kari Lake is refusing to back down in the midst of this election uncertainty. Her team is “exploring every avenue” to bring about legal challenges.
Kari Lake posted a video on her Twitter account proclaiming:
“I am still in this fight with you. For two years, I’ve been sounding the alarm about our broken election system here in Arizona and this past week has confirmed everything we’ve been saying.”
“…Our election officials failed us miserably. Rest assured I have assembled the best and brightest legal team, and we are exploring every avenue to correct the many wrongs that have been done this past week.”

As stated in the attorney generals letter, the alleged victory of Katie Hobbs will not be certified until answers are provided for the abundance of issues in this election.
