The feeling that you get as a kid on Christmas morning goes unmatched for most of your life. As an adult now, some people long to feel that level of tepid excitement and joy of sneaking downstairs and hoping their parents are awake so that the gift-opening festivities can begin. One toddler, however, took Christmas morning to the next level in a move that is going viral on social media.user Scott Reintgen shared a picture of his Christmas tree and the aftermath of his three-year-old’s early morning escapades in a post that has been seen by thousands of users now. The child, eager to get to work unwrapping the gifts that they received this year, snuck downstairs in the dead of night to find and open as many packages as his eyes could see.
There is no real hard-set rule on when gift opening happens. It varies by family, but there are two general rules that almost every family follows. These rules are so ingrained that they oftentimes needn’t be said. The first rule is that gift opening can only commence once every member of the family is present. The other rule, one that really should never be broken, is that you only open the presents that belong to you.
This toddler eviscerated those rules. With complete disregard for the traditions of Christmas, in fairness, they haven’t lived through many Christmases to learn the rules. The kid wandered downstairs at three am and opened all of the presents with their name on them. The tree was a graveyard of wrapping paper with the occasional opened box scattered around.
He didn’t stop there. The excitement that he craved had not yet been quenched with the opening of his presents at three in the morning. There were more gifts sitting there, after all. They were begging to be opened as well. So, the toddler began opening everyone’s presents in the dead of night, likely only a couple of hours after Santa placed them under the tree.
Scott Reintgen, father of the child, wrote, “Yall. My three year old came down at 3am and unwrapped EVERYONE’S presents.” The accompanying picture becomes even more funny when you see that it is still pitch black outside when Scott realizes what happened. He got up early, but his kid got up even earlier.
Scott spoke to NBC News and offered a better explanation of the motives behind his sons actions, saying, “He wanted us to be able to see our presents so we knew what they were. I think he legitimately just felt that he was doing a service to everyone. He will not do it again next year, we hope.”
However, his wife, Katie, seemed less than sure that this wouldn’t happen next year. Talking about the moments after the present thief was caught, she noted that the boy was “Showing no remorse.” It’s a real shame that we may not receive an update on the boy’s exploits next Christmas, but the Reintgen family still seemed to have a good time together even in this exciting aftermath.
