Actor John Schneider, star of “The Dukes of Hazzard,” made what many saw as a threat against Presiden Joe Biden on X and is now under Secret Service investigation. The threat came as part of a tweet Schneider made in response to a post made by President Joe Biden, in which the actor accused the president of treason and called for the public execution of him and Hunter.
The wild post, which has since been deleted, came in response to a tweet the President’s Twitter account posted about the threats that he and others on the left see Trump as posing to the American system and “our democracy,” making the argument that America would “lose everything” if Trump returns to power and acts on his proposed agenda.
President Biden, in his tweet, wrote, “Trump poses many threats to our country: The right to choose, civil rights, voting rights, and America’s standing in the world. But the greatest threat he poses is to our democracy. If we lose that, we lose everything.”
In his since-deleted response to President Joe Biden’s post about Trump and threats to “our democracy,” Mr. Schneider said, “Mr. President, I believe you are guilty of treason and should be publicly hung. Your son too. Your response is..? Sincerely, John Schneider.”
Now, Deadline is reporting that the Secret Service, as part of its mission into protecting high-ranking government officials and their families, has opened a probe into the actor over the tweet and what some argue was a threat made against the president’s life in it.
Schneider played down his post in a response to Newsweek, saying, “Seriously, folks? This is my final comment on this. I neither said nor implied any such thing. Despite headlines claiming otherwise, in my post, I absolutely did not call for an act of violence or threaten a U.S. president as many other celebrities have done in the past. I suggest you re-read my actual post and pay attention to the words before believing this nonsense.”
Continuing, he said, “It’s my position, which I am entitled to have, that some of our nation’s leaders in Washington have lost their way, and corruption runs rampant, both on our nation’s borders and abroad. Transparency and accountability must happen in order for our constitutional republic to survive. There is no threat implied or otherwise in that statement.”
Schneider’s latest tweet, as of the time this article was written on December 22, is about a patriotic film called “To Die For.” The film’s website, describing its plot, says, “Even in this ever changing world some things refuse to bend. Meet Gunnery Sargent Quint North. A creature of habit and discipline, the current PC world and “anything goes” mentality makes no sense at all to him. The propensity of athletes taking a knee and disrespecting not only this great country but also those who gave their lives protecting it makes even less.”
Continuing, it adds, “But what can one man do to fight the intentional decay of the greatest country the world has ever known? Speak out. Live a patriotic example. And, if necessary, die for his flag. Why..?
Because she’s worth it. WARNING: This movie is intensely patriotic. If patriotism and love of country offend you in any way… watch this film… then move somewhere else. Filmmaker – John Schneider”
