Conservative icon Tucker Carlson recently appeared on Megyn Kelly’s podcast, where he addressed rumors that he could potentially be former President Donald Trump’s running mate in 2024. Recent reports indicated that Trump was “thrilled” about possibly having Carlson as Vice President.
While speaking with Kelly on “The Megyn Kelly Show,” Carlson outright described the “unimaginable” nature of him being a politician, especially the Vice President of the United States. Tucker explained that his life experiences have not shaped him to be involved in politics to such a degree, further lamenting the idea of spending significant time interacting with politicians.
“Well, it’s just — it’s just so unimaginable,” Carlson told Megyn Kelly. “I mean, I haven’t led a life that prepares a person for politics. As I said, I don’t think I have any like horrible skeletons or anything. It’s not that, it’s just that that’s not how my brain works. I’ve never done anything like that. I can’t imagine spending time with politicians.”
However, Carlson made it clear that he remains loyal to Trump while illustrating his adoration of the former president. Tucker went on, “I’m a total sucker for Trump, I think he’s — you know, personally I get along with Trump really well. The closer I am physically to Trump, like if I’m with him in the room, I always love Trump and I think it’s impossible not to, and you know the experience. He’s just charming.”
After continuing to describe Trump’s admirable personal qualities, Carlson explains the politics the two share, noting a wide variety of issues they agree on. Tucker also claimed the alleged weaponization of the federal government against Trump is something that further compels him to vote for the former president, mirroring the sentiment of many Republican voters.
“And he’s funny as h—, and he’s brave in his way, I think. So, I really appreciate that and I agree fundamentally with his views. You know, maybe fewer wars, maybe have a border, like those are not crazy things and I support them, and I’m appalled and terrified by the use of the DOJ to rig an election, which is what’s happening now, so all those factors make me kind of psyched to vote for Trump,” the former Fox News host said.
However, Tucker returned to the idea that he simply isn’t cut out to serve in such a politically demanding role. But serving in politics with anybody, I mean that’s just – that’s a – it’s a lot for me to think about because I just don’t think I’m really suited for that. Would anyone want to see a guy like me run for office?” he added.
When Trump was asked last month if he would choose Tucker Carlson to be his running made, he stated, “I like Tucker a lot. I guess I would consider him. He’s got great common sense.” However, the former president has not made any concrete claims about how his VP pick will be. Even as the Republican primary field narrows, Donald Trump still leads the polls by a substantial margin, making it ever-more likely he will secure the nomination.
