Somewhat surprisingly given the razor-thin majority the Republicans hold in the House, Speaker of the House Mike Johnson and his leadership team were able to whip the caucus into shape and get it to vote to formalize the impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden.
In that vote, the GOP-controlled House voted along party lines over the inquiry, with the Republicans winning 221-212. The approved impeachment probe will examine whether the President benefitted from Hunter’s foreign business activities, something members of the GOP have long maintained is the case but that the Biden family and administration resolutely deny.
Congressman Paul Gosar, a staunch MAGA Republican and ally of former President Donald Trump, released a press statement in which he celebrated the victory and explained why it is both important and crucially different from the impeachment attempts the left launched against Trump twice during his one-term presidency.
Beginning his statement on the matter, Gosar explained his involvement in the impeachment inquiry so far and said that the vote to formalize it would give those conducting the investigation the tools they need to look into the Biden family’s business dealings and if the president prospered thanks to those business activities abroad.
He said, “For nearly a year, the House Oversight and Accountability Committee on which I serve, has vigorously pursued all the facts related to Joe Biden’s involvement in the Biden Crime Syndicate’s public corruption schemes, including the tens of millions of dollars funneled to the Biden family by corrupt regimes overseas. The evidence of exploitation and bribery is overwhelming.”
Continuing, Rep. Gosar went on to explain how he sees this impeachment inquiry and the impeachment that might come out of it as being different from the impeachment attacks on former President Donald Trump, explaining that the main difference lies in the GOP’s current focus on the facts rather than just attacking a political enemy, as he and others maintain the Democrats did to Trump.
“The contrast between the care being taken in this investigation to afford due process, and to be fact-based, when compared to what the democrats did on the Russian collusion hoax, an impeachment based on lies, and President Trump’s phone call to Ukraine is quite stark. Obviously, any president is free to make phone calls on any topic. To impeach President Trump because he made a phone call made a mockery of Congress. By contrast, the Republican’s impeachment inquiry is fact-based, grounded in reality, and rooted in the desire to stamp out public corruption at the highest levels,” Congressman Gosar wrote.
Concluding the statement, he said, “I voted to take the next step in formalizing the impeachment inquiry. This is an important step as part of our Constitutional duty to continue conducting the investigation concerning Joe Biden’s repeated lies and everchanging story about his involvement in his crime family’s business activities.”
Biden, for his part, released a statement on the vote in which he said, in part, “There is a lot of work to be done. But after wasting weeks trying to find a new Speaker of the House and having to expel their own members, Republicans in Congress are leaving for a month without doing anything to address these pressing challenges. I wake up every day focused on the issues facing the American people – real issues that impact their lives, and the strength and security of our country and the world. Unfortunately, House Republicans are not joining me. Instead of doing anything to help make Americans’ lives better, they are focused on attacking me with lies. Instead of doing their job on the urgent work that needs to be done, they are choosing to waste time on this baseless political stunt that even Republicans in Congress admit is not supported by facts. The American people deserve better. I know what I am going to remain focused on. I would invite Republicans in Congress to join me.”
