New York City Mayor Eric Adams recently saw his approval rating collapse to the lowest level the city has ever recorded. Adams is struggling to mitigate the ensuing migrant crisis that is putting a severe strain on the city’s infrastructure.
According to a Quinnipiac University poll, Mayor Adams holds just 28 percent support among self-identified registered voters in the city. Reportedly, this is the lowest rating ever documented for a New York City mayor in the poll’s history. Per the poll results, New Yorkers overwhelmingly disapprove of Adams on several different issues the city faces, such as crime, education, immigration, and homelessness.
As Adams concurrently deals with a collapsing approval from his constituents, he faces other political crises, such as an FBI investigation into his campaign finances and a sexual assault accusation from a woman claiming to be a former colleague.
Adams adamantly denied the sexual assault accusation. According to a statement, “The mayor does not know who this person is. If they ever met, he doesn’t recall it. But he would never do anything to physically harm another person and vigorously denies any such claim.”
Last month, FBI agents seized Mayor Adams’ phone and tablet amid allegations that he accepted illegal campaign donations. Adams has been accused of receiving illegal campaign contributions from donors associated with the Turkish government. Some political commentators have alleged that this federal corruption investigation is political retaliation against Adams for his criticism of the Biden administration.
Adams has been highly vocal on the impact the migrant crisis is having on New York City, stating that it could even “destroy” the Big Apple. The liberal mayor has also been critical of the federal government’s role in the issue, calling for more support from the Biden administration.
“Migrants have to feed, clothe, house, educate the children, wash their laundry sheets, give them everything they need healthcare. We’re getting no support on this national crisis. And we’re receiving no support and let me tell you something New Yorkers. Never in my life have I had a problem that I did not see an end to. I don’t see an end into this. I don’t see an ending to this. This issue will destroy New York City. Destroy New York. City,” Adams said, discussing the magnitude of NYC’s problem.
Conservative commentator Michael Knowles alleged the probe into Adams’ campaign finances is the product of retaliation from the Biden administration, attempting to put the NYC mayor back in line for breaking the Democrat script on immigration.
“This guy spoke up against something that the Liberals have to support, which is endless mass migration. And he broke the script here. And he broke with the long-standing Democrat tradition of flooding the country with foreign nationals. And in particular, he criticized Joe Biden. He’s saying Joe Biden, your policy is bad. Embarrassed the sitting Democrat president and then what do you know, the highly politicized investigative and law enforcement arm run ultimately by that President starts poking around Eric Adams a cell phone and iPad. Looks like someone spoke up a little too much,” Knowles said.
