Recently, House Speaker Mike Johnson spoke about the state of Christianity in American culture during a speech in front of the National Association of Christian Lawmakers. During the organization’s annual meeting and gala, Johnson called for Christians nationwide to instill Christian faith and principles in the rising generation who will carry America forward.
Johnson touched on the United States’s Christian roots, noting it as a distinguishing, important factor for the country. “Our hope is in the Lord; our hope and our trust is in God,” he said. “And that is our national motto, and it’s more than a bumper sticker slogan. It is who we are as a nation. It’s what makes us different; it’s what sets us apart.”
“We are the only nation in the world that was founded upon that premise,” Johnson said, explaining that the rights afforded to U.S. citizens originate from God instead of the government. According to the House Speaker, these God-given rights are “in our blood to defend.”
Johnson continued calling for Americans to stand firm in their defense of these inalienable rights as an ongoing battle ensues to determine the worldview the country will hold in the future. “And when other men seem to take our rights away from us, we have the obligation to stand and defend them,” he added. “That was the premise of our country. And what we’re engaged in right now is between battle between worldviews. It’s a great struggle for the future of the republic.”
“The thing is, we have to agree upon what those points are and begin to talk about it in simpler terms,” Johnson said. The speaker also called upon conservatives to embrace the spirit of “winsome warriors” to influence culture effectively.
Johnson maintained a hopeful sentiment in his message, emphasizing the need to unify the country during such a period of political polarization. The House Speaker stated that under the condition that the U.S. adheres to God, there will be a bright future. “We don’t want to divide; we want to unify,” he continued. “We want to bring people into the truth and into the light and to believe in America and that our best days are ahead because they are if we’ll turn to God.”
Since Mike Johnson became a focal point in political headlines after replacing former Speaker Kevin McCarthy, he has not been shy in vocalizing his devout Christian faith, much to the rage of the woke left. After winning the speakership, Johnson acknowledged God’s role in his victory.
He said, “I want to tell all my colleagues here what I told the Republicans in that room last night; I don’t believe there are any coincidences in a matter like this. I believe that Scripture, the Bible, is very clear that God is the one that raises up those in authority. He raised up each of you, all of us, and I believe that God has ordained and allowed each one of us to be brought here for this specific moment in this time.”
