The birds might not have been up and chirping yet at 5:00 a.m. in the town of Granada Hills, California, on Saturday, but a homeowner and alleged intruders both were, leading to a deadly shooter in which the homeowner fought off the attempted home invaders, killing one and sending the two others running away from the scene of the crime. Granada Hills is a town in the region of Los Angeles, California.
When the police arrived at the scene of the early morning incident, the homeowner explained what happened to the officers. According to the homeowner’s story to the police, it was a group of three men that broke into the house at around 5:00 a.m.
One of those three suspects then, according to the homeowner, pointed a weapon at the homeowner while the other two suspects searched the residence. Fortunately for the homeowner, he had a pistol within reach and was able to draw it and open fire.
In the resulting shooting, the homeowner fired multiple rounds at the group of robbers inside the house. One of those alleged intruders was killed at the scene by the gunfire, with the police finding him dead at the scene when they arrived. That dead suspect was identified by the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner as 20 year old Abednego Adre.
The other two alleged intruders escaped, though police said they found a blood trail leading away from the home, which indicates that at lease one of the other two intruders was wounded during the incident, though not severely enough to stop him from escaping. Though police said that the thieves arrived in a black BMW sedan, the two survivors apparently fled from the scene on foot, not in the vehicle.
During the terrifying and deadly incident, the homeowner was not in the house alone. The family’s grandmother and a child were also at home during the alleged break in and deadly shooting, making it all the more frightening.
A neighbor of the homeowner involved in the shooting, Pat Walsh, said that burglaries in the area are so frequent that they have been nicknamed “dinner-time burglaries.” Walsh also said, “I’m not surprised. I’m not surprised at all that this has happened. It’s been a real problem here. The residents here are fed up.”
The Los Angeles Police Department, describing what happened, said, “When the officers arrived, they met with the homeowner (victim) who stated he was inside his residence when three unknown males broke into his house. The victim described the males as all wearing dark clothing, hoodies and masks. In fear for his life, the victim retrieved a handgun and fired multiple rounds at the suspects, striking one of them. The victim then chased the remaining two suspects out of the house. The suspects, who had arrived in a black BMW sedan, fled the scene without their vehicle.”
LAPD Valley Bureau Deputy Chief Alan Hamilton, commenting on crime situation in the area, said, “Our Devonshire detectives have been investigating a number of burglaries in this area that have been centered north and south of Rinaldi and we believe this incident is related to that series of crimes.”
