Recently, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis and California Governor Gavin Newsom met for a fiery debate on Fox News, representing the polarized liberal and conservative political ideologies found across the nation. As the discussion unfolded, conservatives quickly took to social media, slamming Newsom for his stances throughout the event.
Congressman from California, Kevin Kiley, criticized Gov. Newsom’s assertion that the border crisis along the southern United States stems from inefficiencies in Congress. Kiley points out that the GOP actually passed legislation aimed at securing the border, only for the Senate Democrats to allegedly stall the efforts.
“Newsom claims it is Congress, not Biden, responsible for the border crisis. Joe Biden had a Democrat Senate and House for the first two years of his Administration, and he shattered all records for illegal border crossings. This year, the new Republican House passed the Secure the Border Act. It’s gathering dust on Chuck Schumer’s desk in the Senate,” he said.
Andrew Pollack, the father of a girl killed in the infamous Parkland, Fla. school shooting, denounced Newsom’s takes while defending Gov. DeSantis in his efforts to prevent further crises. Pollack claimed that DeSantis sought to protect the Second Amendment as not to impact law-abiding gun owners in Florida.
“My daughter died in the Parkland mass shooting. Ron DeSantis was not even Governor when it happened, but I’m sure as hell glad he became Governor shortly after. Governor DeSantis fired the incompetent people responsible, he didn’t demonize lawful gun owners. Newsom is trash!” he said.
Conservative political commentator Cernovich condemned Newsom for being incapable of defending “pedo books” while misdirecting the debate in defense. “Newsom can’t defend those pedo books so he changes subject to say DeSantis is too mean. That’s the debate. Gavin knows this stuff can’t be defended, so he deflects,” said Cernovich.
David Limbaugh, author, lawyer, and brother of deceased conservative legend Rush Limbaugh, called out Newsom for his divisive rhetoric. Limbaugh charged the California governor for falsely attacking DeSantis. “Look at Newsom again falsely accusing DeSantis of attacking all the identity groups — nothing but dishonest divisiveness. The left has no other tricks in their playbook,” he said.
Conservative commentator Dave Rubin torched Newsom for his commentary on the pandemic, accusing him of trying to “re-write” history. California garnered a reputation for having some of the harshest covid protocols in the country, where Rubin shared his personal testimony of fleeing the blue state for Florida during the pandemic.
“Watching Newsom re-write history on Covid is actually nauseating. This vapid freak is going after DeSantis for lockdowns. I moved two companies and my family and employees from CA to FL in the middle of Covid to escape his authoritarian control. Evil. Just evil,” Rubin said.
Conservative icon Larry Elder also weighed in on the debate, pointing no further than the fact that California is hemorrhaging residents to the conservative governance of Florida. “What did I tell you? When asked why California is losing population while in Florida is gaining population, Newsom, in essence said, yeah, but at least I’m not a racist,” he said. See highlights of the debate below.
