The migration from blue, liberal states has been pronounced, and not only from regular folks. Celebrities have been fleeing high taxes and crime as well. Businesses and industries have also been ditching the Golden Coast as they flee insane regulations and high taxes in search of greener pastures.
The list of companies reads like a “who’s who” in American industry. Heavyweights like Tesla, Oracle, Hewlett Packard, and Charles Schwab have left California in favor of red states like Florida, Tennessee, Texas, and Nevada. However, it isn’t just industry leaving Gavin Newsom’s declining state.
Numerous celebrities have fled as well. Joe Rogan, James Van Der Beek, Mark Wahlberg, Rod Stewart, and Katy Perry, among others, have all relocated to red states to live a more free, normal life without the high crime and taxes. Considering the state of California, it is hard to blame them.
On the leading edge of the migration from California is the most unlikely of pop stars. Tiffany, famous for a string of bubbly pop songs in the 80s, as well as a racy Playboy shoot as she sought to remake her image in the early 2000s, left California for Tennessee over 20 years ago in search of a more normal life. She is now back in the spotlight as she recorded the theme song for the Lifetime holiday movie, “Ladies of the ‘80s: A Divas Christmas.”
The movie stars Loni Anderson, Morgan Fairchild, and other 80s sex symbols in a throwback to the “decade of decadence.” Tiffany talked about the all-star cast: “These are truly the ladies of the ‘80s. I grew up watching so many of them on TV, so it’s been a lot of fun for me to do this.” The holiday movie industry has exploded in recent years, but many of the offerings are stale premises with unknown casts.
Ladies of the 80s provides an opportunity for many children of the 80s to see their favorite stars in starring roles one last time. For Tiffany, she grew up idolizing these women, and the experience has been special. She said: “There was just something special about that time. There was more personal interaction. You would meet up with someone and hang out at the mall. Sure, social media is great to stay in touch, but there was something about just getting together and having fun. That’s what I wanted to capture [in this song].”
After the craziness of being a teen pop star in the 80s and a Playboy model in the 2000s, Tiffany decided to take refuge in the most unlikely place. The “I Think We’re Alone Now” singer has called Tennessee home for nearly 20 years and has not looked back. She said: “I came to Nashville for the first time when I was 10. I’ve been coming back ever since. I love being out in the country – I’m a country girl at heart. I’ve toured all over the world and this place has always been home for me. There’s just something about coming home to my little ranch… I’ve never looked back.”
It is a story that keeps getting told. Hollywood celebrities leave and move to red states and never look back. Whether it is the lower taxes, fewer regulations, more freedom, or less crime, it is clear that life in a red state is just better.
