In one of this year’s bigger moments and victories for Christianity in the entertainment sphere, Kat Von D, a tattoo artist and reality TV star, announced that she had decided to leave her former life of occult practices and witchcraft behind and instead embrace the Christian church.
Von D did so in a somewhat high profile way, first posting a video of herself getting baptized which took the internet by storm, then going on a few podcasts interviews and social media to speak about her newfound faith and why she left her very different former life behind.
Among those interviews for which Von D appeared was one with Allie Beth Stuckey, during which Von D commented on how the 2020 riots and the general malaise and bad lives of her non-Christian friends as compared to her Christian friends led her to consider Christianity more deeply, and she later embraced it.
During that interview, Von D also discussed the inter-familial dynamic she experiences with her new faith, as her husband has not yet converted despite going to church with her. Von D asked fans to not criticize him, as that turns people off from Christianity, and instead to pray for his heart to turn toward Christ.
First commenting on how her Christian faith has made her a better mother, Von D said, “I feel like I’m the best wife and the best mother I can be now because of the changes that I’ve had. There’s been a de-programming that has taken place. Things that I used to find attractive are disgusting to me.” She added, “I wish I could put into words how amazing those changes are.”
Continuing, she then spoke about how she wants her husband to convert, but that he has not yet done so. Beginning that part of the interview, she noted that neither of them were Christian when their relationship began, but that now that she has converted she hopes he will follow in her footsteps toward Christ.
“The one person that I think about through all this is my husband, because when we got together, we were both not Christian. We got married, and then he’s really helped me, without knowing, find my way, and he’s not necessarily on the same page,” she said.
She added that he has supported her in her faith and goes to church with her, even praying with her, but that he has not yet decided to fully leave behind his non-Christian ways and join the church like she did. Speaking about that, she said, “We go to church together every Sunday; he always supports me, and we pray together. But there’s part of him that’s still questioning, and after getting so much grief from people that spilled over into my husband. I remember the next morning, he was like, ‘Babe, I don’t want to be a part of that.‘”
Continuing on that point, she added, “I’m trying not to get emotional because I’ve been working for years trying to lead by example and share my own stepping stones with him, so hopefully, one day, he can come to me and say, ‘Hey, guess what? I’ve given my heart to Jesus.’ That hasn’t happened yet.”
She then asked people to pray for her husband rather than attacking him, saying, “I think that’s what I wish for the most. If these people genuinely cared about me or my husband, instead of picking us apart or picking him apart, I would hope that you would just pray for us instead. It’s already hard enough in real life to live through a lot of this stuff, then to just publicly harass or humiliate [us].”
