Recently, a dog named after the King of Rock and Roll finally found a home after being the final dog in a Chicago animal shelter. Comically, the pooch named Elivs was adopted by a former Elvis impersonator. After spending a significant amount of time and going through numerous potential adopters, Elvis found his “forever home.”
According to The Anti-Cruelty Society, a Chicago-based animal shelter, dozens of different dogs and cats had been adopted, leaving Elvis as the final dog without a home. The shelter doesn’t specify what breed Elvis is other than a “3-year-old meatball,” but looked as if he could be a mix between a couple of different breeds.
According to a Facebook post from the ACS:
Elvis has found his forever home! Elvis is the only dog that didn’t find a home during our Fall in Love adoption event. He met a lot of potential adopters but sadly did not get adopted. Help us find Elvis a family to love! Elvis is a 3-year-old meatball that has the silliest personality! His giant smile lights up every room he enters. Elvis is a snuggler so he hopes you are okay giving up your personal space. Elvis would do best as the only pet in the home. This happy pup is potty-trained, crate-trained, and also knows how to sit and lay down on command. Elvis was originally brought in by our Field Services team as a stray dog. He was not putting weight on his back leg and after taking x-rays, we learned that he had a fracture of the pelvis. This fracture has healed while in our care, but Elvis will be prone to arthritis in his future. Let’s find this handsome ham his forever home!
Another Facebook post from the shelter further expounded upon the amazing news of Elivs’ adoption, particularly that the adopter had previously worked as an Elvis impersonator. The coincidence seemed almost too perfect as their worlds collided. The ACS continued:
Elvis has LEFT the building! His adopters had been waiting for the right time to welcome a dog into their family and once they saw Elvis on the news, they couldn’t deny that it was fate! Loren (left) had worked as an Elvis impersonator in his past and plans to keep his iconic name! This couple is head over heels in love with their new family member and already has a dog bed and tons of toys waiting for him at his forever home. Loren is a dedicated ACS supporter and has hosted many of ACS’s fundraising events as Chicago’s fabulous drag queen, Debbie Fox! We couldn’t be happier for Elvis who finally got his happily ever after! “When no one else wanted him, we found him. We’re all a bunch of misfits” -Drew (right) A GIANT thank you to everyone that shared Elvis’s story and blew it up to millions of people! 76 news stations across the country shared Elvis’s story and we are so grateful to the community for helping Elvis find his forever home!
