In an NFL season that has largely been devoid of drama due to injuries, underperforming stars, and a general lack of compelling competition, Monday night of Week 11 is looming as perhaps the biggest game of the season.
The Kansas City Chiefs are facing off against the Philadelphia Eagles in a primetime rematch of last season’s hotly-contested Super Bowl. Kansas City won the big game, which was shrouded in controversy due to the NFL’s usual poor officiating.
Fast forward to 2023, and the Chiefs and Eagles appear well on their way to another Super Bowl Sunday rematch. The Week 11 game should feature lots of offense, Kelce brother against Kelce brother, and a lot of Taylor Swift, who, in case anyone has been in a coma for the last 11 weeks, is dating Chiefs star tight end Travis Kelce.
Meanwhile, in Kansas City, Donna Kelce is playing both sides of the fence, as usual, and was spotted on Monday holding down the drive-thru, repping both sons. Raising Cane’s official Instagram account posted a story of Donna Kelce working the headset like an NFL head coach as she took orders in the chicken chain’s drive-thru.
Kelce wore a half-red, half-green shirt to represent both sons as she peddled chicken to hungry Kansas City customers. Cane’s Instagram read: “This is Mama Kelce rocking the stage at Cane’s! What can I get for you?”
During a recent episode of the Kelce Brothers’ podcast, New Heights with Jason and Travis Kelce (Presented by Wave Sports + Entertainment), the brothers shared some thoughts on the upcoming matchup and how they don’t want all of the media attention to be on them.
The Eagles Jason Kelce said: “I feel bad because it gets played into a lot about us and not so much our teammates who are also playing the game. I think that’s why from the outside perspective, I wish — it always feels weird when that is the main part of the headline because there are so many other guys out there with us who are also playing.” Travis, never at a loss for deep, meaningful insight, replied,“Hell yeah.”
That wasn’t all Travis had to say. He went on to lavish praise on the Eagles coaches and roster. He continued: “I just love competing against the best, man, and Big Play Slay, Byard… you got some dogs, outside of just the front line.”
While the brothers don’t get to play each other very often, in fact only four times in their careers, the competitive fires still burn especially bright for the Eagles Jason. Kelce. Jason’s Eagles have never beaten Travis’ Chiefs.
Jason continued: “Hopefully we can beat the Chiefs for the first time in my entire career.” Travis departed from the usual “rematch” narrative, instead focusing on this season’s iteration of both teams. He said: “I really don’t think about it as a Super Bowl rematch. I think of this as the Kansas City Chiefs vs the Philadelphia Eagles in 2023. Both teams are different than they were last year, no matter how similar they are, it’s never the same. I think about it like — this doesn’t have much bearing from what happened a year ago. Well, not even a year ago I guess at this point.”
Travis is correct in that these are, in fact, two different teams with numerous new faces. However, they are on the same trajectory, and a win on Monday Night Football can go a long way to securing the top seed in their respective conference as the season prepares for the post-Thanksgiving playoff push.
