Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene recently slammed Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas after the death of two Americans who resided in the congresswoman’s district. Jose and Isabel Lerma, residents of Dalton, Georgia, were allegedly killed in a crash caused by 17-year-old Honduran illegal immigrant Luiz Alfredo Mencias-Escobar.
“Secretary Mayorkas, I want you to look at these innocent Americans. Do you see them?” Greene pressed Mayorkas while holding a photo of her deceased constituents. “I do, congresswoman,” Mayorkas responded. Rep. Greene continued stating how the innumerable issues surrounding illegal immigration are plaguing the nation.
“They are dead. They’re from Dalton, Georgia in my district; they’re dead because a 17-year-old, likely affiliated with the cartels, was smuggling illegal aliens into our country in Texas, breaking our laws, and this happens every single day in our country,” Greene added.
Greene sharply criticized the eight House Republicans who recently voted alongside Democrats not to impeach Mayorkas from his Department of Homeland Security leadership position. However, the Georgia Congresswoman warned Mayorkas that it wouldn’t be long before an adequate number of votes were obtained to oust him from the DHS.
“Earlier this week, eight Republicans joined the Democrats and protected your job,” Greene informed Mayorkas. “But I want you to know, you have a short time coming. You can honorably resign, or we’re going to impeach you, and it’s happening very, very soon.”
According to reports, native Honduran Luiz Alfredo Mencias-Escobar illegally crossed the southern border into Eagle Pass, Texas, in 2019. The illegal alien was released with a notice to appear in court, where it was ruled he must be removed from the county. This year, he was stopped in Zavala County, where he was a passenger in a failed human trafficking attempt.
Reportedly, Sheriff’s deputies released Mencias-Escobar to Border Patrol, who allegedly passed him on to the Department of Health and Human Services, despite the issuance of a court-ordered removal, where he was returned to his mother’s residence in Houston, Texas.
The American Tribune recently reported on comments from Rep. MTG, where she firmly denounced Mayorkas’ job as DHS secretary following the deaths of his constituents. Greene slammed him for failing to get a grip on the southern border, which has experienced record-high illegal immigration during the Biden administration. MTG illustrated the all-to-apparent impact illegal immigration through the U.S. southern border is having on the everyday lives of Americans.
“This is unacceptable! Alejandro Mayorkas is derelict of his duty to secure our Southern border, and my constituents are dying!!” Greene said, expressing her frustration with Mayorkas. She noted that the deceased members of her district “had 5 kids who will never get to say goodbye.”
“The utter disregard for American life displayed by Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas can no longer be ignored. The time for more hearings and phases is over. Americans are getting murdered just traveling to see their families. Lives have been lost forever. Everyone should care. This is not a political issue. That’s why I just introduced privileged Articles to IMPEACH Secretary Mayorkas,” MTG said.
