It’s the end of an era with Megan Rapinoe, the far-left women’s soccer player known mainly for her visceral hatred of former President Donald Trump and for bringing her personal politics onto the field when hot-button issues were in the news. That’s because Rapinoe just played her last game, which was over for her just minutes after beginning thanks to a non-contact injury.
That game was the National Women’s Soccer League Championship, which was her final game. In it, her team, OL Reign, took on the NJ/NY Gotham football club. The abrupt end for her came just about five minutes after the start, as she suffered a leg injury that forced her off the field.
B/R Football, commenting on the injury and what it meant for Megan in a post on X (formerly Twitter), said, “Megan Rapinoe’s final professional game was cut short as she limped off inside the first five minutes of the NWSL Final 💔.”

Though Rapinoe cried when limping off the field following her injury, she later said that she wasn’t “overly emotional” about the injury, saying, “I wasn’t overly emotional about it. I mean, f—ing yeeted my Achilles in the sixth minute of my last game ever in the literal championship game.”
Commenting on how it felt during the game, she added, “I don’t wanna sit there and sulk on the bench. It’s not just any player going out, it’s me, and it’s my last game ever. So I just wanted to try to stay in it and keep it light, and I just wanted to be in it for myself too.”
Another player, Gotham defender Ali Krieger, said, “I was just like, ‘You need to wrap that up and get back out here, so just take a couple minutes.’ I just feel so gutted for her. Honestly, I never thought that that would ever happen, and I feel so sad because you know football is such a risk, right? And you never know if it’s going to be your last game, your last moment.”
The incident caps a generally bad last year for Rapinoe. Over the summer, Rapinoe and the United States Women’s National Team did poorly in the Women’s World Cup, getting ousted in just round 16 in a shootout lost with the Swedish Women’s National Team.
Rapinoe’s inveterate leftism on the field, particularly her refusal to put her hand over her heart for the national anthem, has made her a frequent target of the right. Megyn Kelly recently lambasted her for that, for example, saying, “Here’s Megan Rapinoe on her last middle finger to the United States, which made her rich, which gave her a college scholarship, which gave her $7 million a year, reportedly, in endorsements and fees for playing soccer for us on her swan song out the door.”
Kelly added, “She sets a terrible example for our little girls. All I can say is thank God those girls were looking forward and not looking back at Megan Rapinoe. Let’s hope it’s true metaphorically. In addition to being an actual physical reality, because she is no role model, good riddance.”
