Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene introduced a resolution earlier this week seeking to force a vote on impeaching United States Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas. Greene brought forth the initiative after two of her Georgia constituents were killed in a car accident involving a suspected human smuggler.
MTG sounded off on Mayorkas, claiming he is not fulfilling his duties as Homeland Security Secretary. Greene accused Mayorkas of “high crimes and misdemeanors” during a speech in front of the House.
Greene further called to secure the southern border to “protect states against invasion” from illegal immigrants. The Georgia representative condemned Mayorka’s leadership, claiming he failed to prevent the influx of dangerous narcotics such as fentanyl.
“This is unacceptable! Alejandro Mayorkas is derelict of his duty to secure our Southern border and my constituents are dying!!” Greene said in a social media. She further expressed her frustration, saying the victims of the deadly crash “had 5 kids who will never get to say goodbye.”
Greene continued, “The utter disregard for American life displayed by Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas can no longer be ignored. The time for more hearings and phases is over. Americans are getting murdered just traveling to see their families. Lives have been lost forever. Everyone should care. This is not a political issue. That’s why I just introduced privileged Articles to IMPEACH Secretary Mayorkas.”
The Department of Homeland Security recently responded to Greene’s resolution, disagreeing with the Republican attacks on Mayorkas. A DHS spokesperson provided a vague list of supposed accomplishments that have occurred under Mayorkas’ leadership.
“While the House Majority has wasted months trying to score points with baseless attacks, Secretary Mayorkas has been doing his job and working to keep Americans safe,” according to a DHS spokesperson.
“Under his leadership, the Department of Homeland Security is stopping unprecedented amounts of fentanyl from entering the country, countering threats from the Chinese government, helping communities recover from natural disasters, and working to protect our nation from cyberattacks, terrorism, and targeted violence,” according to the statement from the spokesperson. “Instead of continuing their reckless impeachment charades and attacks on law enforcement, Congress should work with us to keep our country safe, build on the progress DHS is making, and deliver desperately needed reforms for our broken immigration system that only legislation can fix.”
Rep. MTG has recently spearheaded other aggressive measures to attack the bureaucracy within the Biden administration. For example, Greene recently introduced a bill that would lower the salary of Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg to just $1.
“I’m proud to announce my amendment to FIRE Pete Buttigieg just PASSED the House. Pothole Pete staged fake bike rides to the White House and used private planes funded by taxpayers to receive awards for the way certain people have sex,” Greene said in a social media post. “American taxpayers should not be on the hook for paying for his lavish trips or his salary.”
“Pete Buttigieg doesn’t do his job. It’s all about fake photo ops and taxpayer-funded private jet trip to accept LGBTQ awards for him,” MTG continued. “I’m happy my amendment passed, but he doesn’t deserve a single penny.”
