Miss Universe went woke and now it is going broke. Or, more specifically, the company that owns Miss Universe, JKN Global Group, has gone bankrupt as the Miss Universe pageant drifted farther and farther left, alienating many Americans in the process.
In a statement about the matter posted on its website, JKN Global Group announced that it was attempting to deal with the financial situation and that the planned Miss Universe competition for 2023 would go ahead as scheduled despite the financial troubles the company is facing.
It said, “In response to the recent news, JKN Global Group has recently announced its strategic corporate financial management plan to cope with the current financial situation. We are confident that the new plan will support all of the company’s business operations, including Miss Universe.”
Continuing, that statement added that the 2023 competition will go on as scheduled in El Salvador, saying, “We confirm that Miss Universe 2023 will be held in El Salvador on 18 November 2023, where a top notch experience provided to our fans will remain our top priorities.”
The statement ended, “We reaffirm that the legacy of Miss Universe will be carried on by JKN Global Group as envisioned from the beginning. We look forward to welcoming our delegates and fans in El Savador as well as through our broadcasting partners.”
Another shared document from JKN Global was the company’s bankruptcy filing with the SEC. It noted that the bankruptcy was occurring so that the company could reorganize its debts, but otherwise provided few details about the matter.
Still another shared document was a letter from the company to the President of the Stock Exchange of Thailand. That letter provided, “According to the filing of petition for business rehabilitation proceeding of JKN Global Group Public Company Limited (the “Company”) with the Thai Bankruptcy Court under the Bankruptcy Act, B.E. 2483 (1940) (as amended) on November 8, 2023, the Company would like to inform that, on November 9, 2023, the Thai Bankruptcy Court issued an order to accept the petition for business rehabilitation of the Company. In this regard, the Thai Bankruptcy Court has set the hearing date for the petition for business rehabilitation on January 29, 2024. The Company will keep you informed if there is any progress related to the rehabilitation of the Company.”
Miss Universe has been in the news lately mostly because of its including two transgender individuals in the upcoming pageant, scheduled to take place in El Salvador on November 18th. Its inclusion of those individuals has made the competition less interesting to many on the political right.
The two transgender individuals who will be in the upcoming pageant are Marina Machete, a 23-year-old flight attendant who was crowned Miss Portugal in October, and Rikkie Kollé, who became the first transgender winner of Miss Netherlands in July.
Miss Universe was also in the news because a white Zimbabwean won in Zimbabwe, a country that is primarily black and has been politically dominated by black individuals, namely Robert Mugabe, since the fall of Ian Smith’s Rhodesian government in 1980 and Mugabe took power.
