In one of the more shocking moments of the week, South Carolina Senator Lindsey Graham, normally one of the most egregious warmongers and saber rattlers in the Republican Party, went on Fox News and declared that he wouldn’t support spending a dime of American money on foreign aid, even to Israel, until the southern border is secured.
Speaking on the matter during an appearance on “Hannity,” Sen. Graham first torched the Biden Administration for its feckless handling of the southern border and the crisis-level number of migrants flowing across it. Continuing, he argued that Trump would have secured the border, then finally dropped the bomb of saying he wouldn’t support any foreign aid until our border is secured.
Graham first said, “This is the same administration, that is having more illegal immigrants cross our border illegally, then all Presidents combined, they don’t know what they’re doing on the border. They don’t know what they’re doing when it comes to bad guys.”
Continuing, he praised Trump and demanded the government put America’s borders first, saying, “If you had Donald Trump as president, we would secure the border tomorrow. People would listen to him in Mexico and other places because they’re afraid of him. If he were president United States, this stuff with Iran would end the only thing that works with bad guys is to be strong. Our borders broken, our policies don’t work. It’s a matter of time to a bunch of Americans get killed. I will not vote for one dime for any country, including Israel until we first secure our own border.”
Watch him here:
Sen. Graham then took to X (formerly Twitter), to reiterate his pledge, saying, “I will not vote for one dime for any country, including Israel, until we secure our own border.” Commenters didn’t believe him, however, replying by saying things like “WTH? Hasn’t he visited and supported more money to go to Ukraine than any other Senator?” and “We’re not fooled by what you’re not saying warmonger. You would vote to send more billions of our US taxpayer dollars to Ukraine under any circumstances.”
In another series of posts, Sen. Graham made much the same pledge, writing, “I will not vote for any supplemental package for Ukraine and Israel that does not have real border security reform. We can’t help other countries unless we also help ourselves!”
In the same thread, he added, “The rush on our southern border is because of the terrible policy choices the Biden Administration and Democrats wholeheartedly embraced that entice illegal immigration. I made it clear that when they discussed and adopted these policies they would create – and ultimately have – a nightmare on their hands. Unfortunately for our country, those warnings have come true.”
Sen. Graham has been making the “no aid unless the border is secured” pledge for some time. In late October, he wrote, “I will not vote for any relief package for foreign nations unless we address our border security problems by fixing failed policies, instead of just throwing more money at the problem.”
