Recently, the co-founder of Home Depot sat down for a wide-ranging interview with Fox News addressing various topics such as Joe Biden’s economy to the disturbing rise in antisemitism in America. The former CEO of the famous department store indicated that he is concerned about the future prospects of America.
Marcus has made it no secret that he disapproves of the Biden administration and its policies over the past several years. The businessman supported former President Donald Trump and may continue to stand behind his platform for the Republican party in 2024. He also voiced his disappointment with the last presidential election and concerns about where the current state of American politics will lead future generations.
“I would like to believe that the American people in this next election, but I must tell you, the last election was a big disappointment to me. How worried about my grandchildren? I mean, imagine these kids being afraid to go out of the library,” Marcus said. “I never anticipated anything like what we’re going through,” he said, criticizing Biden. “I wake up every morning and I say, ‘What is this dunce going to do today?’”
Marcus further dug into President Biden and the impact his administration’s policies have had on the American economy. Over the past couple of years, inflation skyrocketed to highs not seen in four decades, where in June 2022, the consumer price index hit 9.1%. Prices rose so aggressively due to a confluence of factors such as federal fiscal spending, supply chain dislocations, and pent-up demand from the Federal Reserve, lowering interest rates to nearly zero.
“He cut back drilling, he caused the inflation, the inflation caused every other problem for every businessman, for every American,” Marcus said. “And the people that he’s supposed to represent, the poor people, the middle class, they’re getting killed today.”
Marcus then appealed to his small business roots, empathizing with those customers amid the challenging economic environment. He illustrated the financial hardship that many Americans are enduring, just trying to make ends meet for their families.
“I’ll tell you something. I have never forgotten the fact that I was a small businessman, and Home Depot customers, I have them in mind, they’re getting killed,” Marcus said. “They’re getting killed. They can’t afford to fill their cars with gas. They can’t afford to put a good meal on the table for their families. They can’t afford their rent. They can’t afford their insurance. Every freaking thing that there is, is up. And even when we see it drop a little bit, it drops on top of this number.”
Outside of the conversation around the economy and politics, Marcus addressed the palpable antisemitism that can be witnessed around the country. As a man of Jewish descent, Marcus described why this is disturbing, tying it to his observations of the Holocaust when he was younger.
“This is no different than Nazi Germany coming back I see Nazi Germany all over this thing. That’s the way it was. I remember in the 40s when I grew up, and I saw this happening. And then of course, it ended with the Holocaust and the internment, the…the… concentration camps. And it was just killing Jews for the sake of killing Jews. That’s what these kids are marching. They don’t they don’t know what they’re marching to,” he said.
