We’ve all dreamt of this moment. Whether we buy lottery tickets or not, everyone thinks about the moment they win the lottery and immediately lets their mind wander to their plans should the unthinkable happen. With millions of dollars at one’s disposal overnight, the answer to what would one do with that money and offer a deep insight into who that person really is.
Some of us would save the money, put it away in retirement accounts, and invest in the market, hoping to receive a steady return on the massive sum of funds. Others have debt and would quickly pay off student loans and car loans and even go as far as to get rid of that nasty monthly mortgage payment.
Some people still will blow the money quickly, spending as if they have an endless supply of money after their lottery win and like there is no way they will ever return to the same financial state from which they began. Regardless of what one would do with the money, we all have dreams and plans to some degree.
Well, A Pennsylvania woman named Penny Reep won $3 million on a scratch-off ticket and was asked what she would be doing with the money. Her answer? Penny is going to be taking her terminally ill husband on his dream vacation to Alaska.
At first, she said that she questioned whether she was seeing straight. Penny couldn’t believe that she had scratched off the winning ticket. But, as she stared at it longer, she realized that she really had won a life-changing amount of money. A sum that she could use to have one more great experience with the man that she loves.
According to People, Penny said, “I grabbed the counter and started crying. I had chest pain and it felt like my feet were coming out from underneath of me.”
Her husband’s lifelong dream of going to Alaska seemed more like a pipe dream than ever before as time continued to tick along, and the couple didn’t have the financial ability to make the vacation a reality. There was never a question of what to do with the money, Penny said.
Speaking about the vacation to Alaska, Penny said, “It was always a pipe dream. Now, I’m going to be able to give him everything he’s always wanted.” She later continued, saying, “We don’t know how long we have with him. He’s no longer able to work, and I’ve been trying to take care of him, but I’m also having health problems.”
Penny is also excited to be able to give back charitably to a community that has helped her through her own hard times. She said, “It’s been a true struggle mentally, physically, financially, emotionally, and now we’re actually able to help give back again to people that helped us through our roughest time.”
Best wishes to Penny and her husband as they embark on their great excursion to Alaska, now with newfound financial freedom.
