Tyler Christopher, star of “General Hospital,” has passed away. Christopher was 50-years-old. The news was shared first by Christopher’s agent and also by Frank Valentini, the executive producer of the hit ABC soap opera that has been running since 1963.
The news hit fans and the cast of “General Hospital” hard, as the show has graced television sets for longer than many of its viewers have been alive on Earth. That longevity makes it hard for fans to avoid growing an emotional connection to the actor of the long-running soap opera and, in turn, growing emotionally close to the actors who portray them.
Frank Valentini, executive producer of “General Hospital” and a man who worked closely with Tyler Christopher, released a statement on the show’s official Instagram page that said the following. “I am heartbroken over the news of Tyler Christopher’s passing. He was kind, an incredible actor and a dear friend, who was beloved by our GH family and fans of Nikolas Cassadine. On behalf of everyone at General Hospital, our heartfelt sympathies go out to his loved ones during this difficult time.”
One fan in the comments left a thought that was exactly what many fans of the show are feeling since the news of Christopher’s passing. She said, “He will always be my Nikolas. Can remember clearly when he burst on the scene and was such a commanding presence. Held his own with the likes of Stephen Nichols, Nancy Grahn, Tony Geary, Genie Francis and so many more. What a tragic loss and I’m so sad for his family and those that loved him.”
This news was also quickly confirmed by many news outlets, including Fox News Digital, who obtained a pertinent statement from Christopher’s agent.
In a statement provided by Fox News Digital, Christopher’s agent, Chi Lo, said, “I can confirm that Tyler Christopher has passed away this morning. This news was incredibly shocking, and I am devastated by his loss. He was a very gifted actor, and more importantly, an amazing friend. My heart goes out to his friends and family who loved him so much.”
Co-stars of “General Hospital” also reached out via social media to show a public display of support for Christopher’s family and to say their piece about the co-worker and friend that will be missed.
Maurice Benard, one such co-star, released a lengthy goodbye on his own Instagram page. He wrote, “It is with great sadness that we share the news of the passing of Tyler Christopher. Tyler passed away this morning following a cardiac event in his San Diego apartment. Tyler was a truly talented individual that lit up the screen in every scene he performed and relished bringing joy to his loyal fans through his acting.”
With so many fans and co-workers from the set of “General Hospital” reaching out online to share their thoughts about Christopher, it becomes clear that he was a man who many looked up to and that he will be sorely missed for years to come.
